ARCH 205 BUILDING CONSTRUCTION WALL SYSTEMS
WALLS • Walls are vertical construction of a building that enclose, separate and protect its interior spaces. • Walls can be loadbearing or non-loadbearing structures. • Loadbearing walls support imposed loads from roof and floors, withstand horizontal wind loads and transfer these loads safely to the ground foundation. • Non-loadbearing walls are infill structures that are not designed to support load transfer. Also known as curtain walls.
WALLS- PERFORMANCE • Walls on a whole should protect the interior spaces from weather conditions by controlling passage of heat, Infiltrating air, sound, moisture and water vapor. • Exterior walls should be durable (long lasting) and weather resistant. • Walls should have the specified fire- resistance rating. • Walls should be able to support door & window fixing, finish materials and accommodate the outlets of mechanical and electrical services.
CONCRETE COLUMN • Concrete columns are designed to resist applied forces. • It has vertical and lateral reinforcement.
