Length = Width = Height *A cube has 6 equal and square faces.

*A cuboid has six rectangular faces.

Example 1: Find the dimensions of the cuboid. Answer: Length = 16 cm Width = 9 cm Height = 4 cm

Example 2: Find the dimensions of the cuboid. Answer: 3 cm Length = _____ 3 cm Width = _____ 4 cm Height = _____

Special Seatwork (5 points) Find the dimensions of the cuboid. Answer: 9 in Length = _____ 5 in Width = _____ 3 in Height = _____

Volume = (length)(width)(height) = lwh = s 3 = (s)(s)(s) Volume = lwh = (1 u)(1 u) = 1 u 3 = 1 cubic unit

Example 1 Find the volume of the cube. Working: V = s 3 = (5 cm)(5 cm) V = 125 cm 3

Example 2 Working Volume = lwh V = (2 cm)(2 cm) V = 8 cm³ 2 cm Calculate the volume of the dice.

Special Seatwork (5 points) Find the volume of the cube.

Volume of a cuboid 18 cubes fit the base. 4 cm 3 cm 6 cm = 1 cubic centimeter = 1 cm³ 4 layers of 18 cubes = 4 x 18 = 72 centimetre cubes = 72 cm³

Volume = (length)(width)(height) = lwh

Example 1 Find the volume of the cube. V = lwh = (4 cm)(3 cm)(2 cm) V = 24 cm³

Example 2 Find the volume of the building. Roi-Et Plaza 27 cm Building 5 cm 18 cm Working Volume = lwh V = (18 cm)(5 cm)(27 cm) V = 2, 430 cm³

Converting metric units of volume and capacity Metric units of volume/capacity 1 liter 1 milliliter 1 cubic meter = 1, 000 cubic centimeters(cm 3) = 1, 000 cubic milliliters(m. L) = 1 cubic centimeters(cm 3 or cc) = 1, 000 liters(L) = 1, 000 cubic centimeters(cm 3)

Converting larger units to smaller units Example 1 Convert 3 L to cubic centimeters. Working: 1 L = 1, 000 cm 3 3 L = (3 L) 1, 000 cm 3 1 L = (3)(1, 000 cm 3) = 3, 000 cm 3

Example 2 Convert 9 m 3 to cubic centimeters. Working: 1 m 3 = 1, 000 cm 3 9 m 3 = (9 m 3) 1, 000 cm 3 1 m 3 = (9)(1, 000 cm 3) = 9, 000 cm 3

Example 2 Convert 2 L to milliliters. Working: 1 L = 1, 000 m. L 2 L = (2 L) 1, 000 m. L 1 L = (9)(1, 000 cm 3) = 9, 000 cm 3

Converting smaller units to larger units Example 1 Convert 5, 000 m 3 to liters. Working: 1 m 3 = 1, 000 L 5, 000 m 3 = (5, 000 m 3) 1, 000 L 1 m 3 = (5, 000)(1, 000 L) = 5, 000 L

Example 2 Convert 2, 000 cm 3 to cubic meters. Working: 1, 000 cm 3 = 1 m 3 2, 000 cm 3 = (2, 000 cm 3) = (2)(1 m 3) = 2 m 3 1, 000 cm 3

Example 3 Convert 10, 000 m. L to liters. Working: 1, 000 m. L = 1 L 10, 000 m. L = (10, 000 m. L ) = (10)(1 L) = 10 L 1 L 1, 000 m. L
