AQABA ship cruise contributions Yafang Cheng Hang Su

AQABA ship cruise contributions: Yafang Cheng / Hang Su Groups Long Path Absorption Photometer (LOPAP, QUMA) - gas phase HONO: → HOx budget calculations - will be installed in the trace gas container? (need access to the container roof to service the absorption unit) - LOPAP detection unit close to container ceiling (hydraulic lifter: 118 x 52 cm) - power consumption: 1 k. W (incl. cryostat) - auxiliaries: Zero Air Generator (otherwise: zero air gas cylinders)

AQABA ship cruise contributions: Yafang Cheng / Hang Su Groups Single Particle Soot Photometer (SP 2, DMT) - single particle measurements of black carbon (BC, soot) (2 nd most important climate forcing agent) based on laser-induced incandescence (4000 K) - output: - sample flow: 0. 12 lpm - fits into a 19 inch rack (to be constructed) - power consumption: 0. 4 k. W - auxiliaries: none - BC mass distribution as function of particle diameter - Particle number distribution as a function of particle size - retrieve BC coating thickness

AQABA ship cruise contributions: Yafang Cheng / Hang Su Groups Cloud Condensation Nuclei Counter (CCNC-200, DMT) - Dual Growth Columns instrument - Cloud Condensation Nuclei (CCN) number concentration as a function of supersaturation - in combination with a Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer (SMPS, TSI): size resolved activation fraction (time resolution 5 -10 min for each supersaturation, 1 hour for complete scan) - sample flow: 1 l min-1 (higher if complemented by SMPS) - fits into a 19 inch rack (together with SP 2), but needs (side) space if complemented by SMPS - power consumption: 0. 7 k. W (sole CCNC) - auxiliaries: Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer (SMPS) general questions: - one common inlet for all aerosol measurements? - one common dryer (nafion or diffusion)? - one common neutralizer (radioactive source!)? - 1 µm inlet cutoff (aggressive salt particles)?
