PPE In addition to your uniform (if provided), Ruan requires the following six items to be worn by all flatbed drivers anytime you are on duty and not driving: + Hard hat + Long pants + Safety vest or approved hi-visibility shirt + Safety-toe boots with internal metatarsal protection + Gloves + Safety glasses + Also - Any Customer Specific Additional Requirements – e. g. Hearing Protection

REMEMBER – Securement Guidelines – The Ruan Way + + + Minimum of two forms of securement per item 2 forms in front / 2 in back / 1 every 10 feet – regardless of bulkhead Enough chains / straps to account for 100 percent of the load’s weight If a securement device is missing the stamp or tag, it is OOS Bungees are not cargo securement devices – only tarp tie downs Ruan equipment load limits: • 4 inch strap – 5000 • 2 inch strap – 3000 • 3/8 chain – 6000 • 5/16 chain- 4500

Load Positioning + Load Positioning • Tandem axle – Start in the middle – Front to back • Spread axle – Front edge of front tandem – Load forward Front Edge of Spread Axle

Equipment Needed + Heavy-duty coil rack • Required unless eye-in-the sky load + Beveled lumber + Friction mat + Edge protectors • Metal when available + Chains + Binders + Straps (when needed) + Tarps (when needed)

Proper Securement + Number of securement devices is dependent on weight of coil. • Ruan’s guideline is one 3/8 chain is 6, 000 pounds or 5/16 chain is 4, 500 pounds. + Number of securement devices can also depend upon number of coils on the trailer. + All Coils 5000 pounds or more (one or more than one) must be secured to Coil Standards. Less than 5000 pounds, general securement applies. + Identify which loading style to use: • Shot gun (eyes lengthwise) • Suicide (eyes crosswise) • Eye to the sky (eyes vertical) + The style used will determine chain placement. + Edge protection should be used on all coil securement. Ruan adheres to FMCSA regulations – 393. 120

Proper Securement + Shot Gun • Crisscross chains in the eye of the coil – Left front to right rear / right front to left rear – Ensure you have equal number of chains pulling in all directions • Minimum of one strap over the top – two is preferred • Remember – 100% load securement

Proper Securement + Suicide • Equal tension should be in both forward and rear directions. – Do not allow chains to cross in the eye (per FMCSA regulations). • Securement device over the top – On skinny coils, use a single chain belly-wrapped around top of the coil. – On wide coils, use a crisscross strap over the top of the coil.

Proper Securement + Eye to the Sky • Use a minimum of two securement devices crisscrossed. • One securement device straight across (side to side) • One securement device around the front to prevent load shift or forward movement • Coil should never be on the deck of the trailer (it should be placed on a friction mat, pallet, dunnage).

Securement Dangers Don’t let this happen to you. Coils can be dangerous if you cut corners.
