“Entering into Jerusalem” Matthew 21: 1 -9
When they had come near Jerusalem and had reached Bethpage, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, ‘Go into the village ahead of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to me.
If anyone says anything to you, just say this, “The Lord needs them. ” And he will send them immediately. ’ This took place to fulfill what had been spoken through the prophet, saying, ‘Tell the daughter of Zion, Look, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on a donkey, and on
a colt, the foal of a donkey. ’ The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them; they brought the donkey and the colt, and put their cloaks on them, and he sat on them. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.
The crowds that went ahead of him and that followed were shouting, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!’

“Supper Together” Luke 22: 14 -20
When the hour came, he took his place at the table, and the apostles with him. He said to them, ‘I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; for I tell you, I will not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God. ’
Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he said, ‘Take this and divide it among yourselves; for I tell you that from no on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes. ’
Then he took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me. ’ And he did the same with the cup after supper, saying,
‘This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood. ’
“Servanthood” John 13: 3 -17
Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going to God, got up from the table, took off his outer robe, and tied a towel around himself.
Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was tied around him. He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, ‘Lord, are you going to wash my feet? ’
Jesus answered, ‘You do not know what I am doing, but later you will understand. ’ Peter said to him, ‘You will never wash my feet. ’ Jesus answered, ‘Unless I wash you, you have no share with me. ’ Simon Peter said to him,
‘Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!’ Jesus said to him, ‘One who has bathed does not need to wash, except for the feet, but is entirely clean. And you are clean, though not all of you. ’
For he knew who was to betray him; for this reason he said, ‘Not all of you are clean. ’ After he had washed their feet, had put on his robe, and had returned to the table, he said to them, ‘Do you know what I have done to you?
You call me Teacher and Lord – and you are right, for that is what I am. So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have set you an example,
that you should do as I have done to you. Very truly, I tell you, servants are not greater than their master, nor are messengers greater than the one who sent them. If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.
“Love” John 13: 31 -35
When he had gone out, Jesus said, ‘Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and God has been glorified in him. If God has been glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself and will glorify him at once.
Little children, I am with you only a little longer. You will look for me; and as I said to the Jews so now I say to you, “Where I am going, you cannot come. ” I give you a new commandment, that you love one another.
Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. ’

“Sin and Denial” Luke 22: 47 -62
While he was still speaking, suddenly a crowd came, and the one called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him; but Jesus said to him, ‘Judas, is it with a kiss that you are betraying the Son of Man? ’
When those who were around him saw what was coming, they asked, ‘Lord, should we strike with the sword? ’ Then one of them struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his right ear. But Jesus said, ‘No more of this!’ And he touched his ear and healed him.
Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple police, and the elders who had come for him, ‘Have you come out with swords and clubs as if I were a bandit? When I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me.
But this is your hour, and the power of darkness!’ Then they seized him and led him away, bringing him into the high priest’s house. But Peter was following at a distance. When they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together,
Peter sat among them. Then a servant-girl, seeing him in the firelight, stared at him and said: Person 1: ‘This man also was with him. ’ But he denied it, saying, Peter: ‘Woman, I do not know him. ’
A little later someone else, on seeing him, said, Person 3: ‘You also are one of them. ’ But Peter said, Peter: ‘Man, I am not!’ Then about an hour later yet another kept insisting,
Person 4: ‘Surely this man also was with him; for he is a Galilean. ’ But Peter said, Peter: ‘Man, I do not know what you are talking about!’ At that moment, while he was still speaking, the cock crowed. The Lord turned and looked at Peter.
Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to him, ‘Before the cock crows today, you will deny me three times. ’ And he went out and wept bitterly.

“Grieved and Agitated” Matthew 26: 36 -50
Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane; and he said to his disciples, ‘Sit here while I go over there and pray. ’ He took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be grieved and agitated.
Then he said to them, ‘I am deeply grieved, even to death; remain here, and stay awake with me. ’ And going a little farther, he threw himself on the ground and prayed, ‘My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me;
yet not what I want but what you want. ’ Then he came to the disciples and found them sleeping; and he said to Peter, ‘So, could you not stay awake with me one hour? Stay awake and pray that you may not come into the time of trial;
the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. ’ Again he went away for the second time and prayed, ‘My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done. ’ Again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy.
So leaving them again, he went away and prayed for the third time, saying the same words. Then he came to the disciples and said to them, ‘Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? See, the hour is at hand,
and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Get up, let us be going. See, my betrayer is at hand. ’ While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, arrived; with him was a large crowd with swords and clubs,
from the chief priests and the elders of the people. Now the betrayed had given them a sign, saying, ‘The one I will kiss is the man; arrest him. ’ At once he came up to Jesus and said, ‘Greetings, Rabbi!’ and kissed him.
Jesus said to him, ‘Friend, do what you are here to do. ’ Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and arrested him.
RESPONDING TO THE WORD JOYS AND CONCERNS PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
The Lord’s Prayer (unison) Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come; thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
“Innocent” Luke 22: 63 – 23: 25
Now the men who were holding Jesus began to mock him and beat him; they also blindfolded him and kept asking him, ‘Prophesy! Who is it that struck you? ’ They kept heaping many other insults on him.
When the day came, the assembly of elders of the people, both chief priests and scribes, gathered together, and they brought him to their council. They said, ‘If you are the Messiah, tell us. ’ He replied, ‘If I tell you, you will not believe;
and if I question you, you will not answer. But from now on the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God. ’ All of them asked, ‘Are you, then, the Son of God? ’ He said to them, ‘You say that I am. ’ Then they said,
‘What further testimony do we need? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips!’ Then the assembly rose as a body and brought Jesus before Pilate. They began to accuse him, saying, ‘We found this man perverting our nation,
forbidding us to pay taxes to the emperor, and saying that he himself is the Messiah, a king. ’ Then Pilate asked him, Pilate: ‘Are you the king of the Jews? ’ He answered, Jesus: ‘You say so. ’
Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, Pilate: ‘I find no basis for an accusation against this man. ’ But they were insistent and said, ‘He stirs up the people by teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee where he began even to this place. ’
When Pilate heard this, he asked whether the man was a Galilean. And when he learned that he was under Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him off to Herod, who was himself in Jerusalem at that time. When Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad, for he had been
wanting to see him for a long time, because he had heard about him and was hoping to see him perform some sign. He questioned him at some length, but Jesus gave him no answer. The chief priests and the scribes stood by, vehemently accusing him.
Even Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him; then he put an elegant robe on him, and sent him back to Pilate. That same day Herod and Pilate became friends with each other; before this they had been enemies.
Pilate then called together the chief priests, the leaders, and the people, and said to them, Pilate: ‘You brought me this man as one who was perverting the people; and here I have examined him in your presence and have not
found this man guilty of any of your charges against him. Neither has Herod, for he sent him back to us. Indeed, he has done nothing to deserve death. I will therefore have him flogged and release him. ’ Then they all shouted
Then they all shouted out together, ‘Away with this fellow! Release Barabbas for us!’ (This was a man who had been put in prison for an insurrection that had taken place in the city, and for murder. ) Pilate, wanting to release Jesus, addressed them
again; but they kept shouting ‘Crucify, crucify him!’ A third time he said to them, Pilate: ‘Why, what evil has he done? I have found in him no ground for the sentence of death; I will therefore have him flogged and then release him. ’
But they kept urgently demanding with loud shouts that he be crucified; and their voices prevailed. So Pilate gave his verdict that their demand should be granted. He released the man they asked for, the one who had been put in prison
for insurrection and murder, and he handed Jesus over as they wished.

“Mocked and Led Out” Mark 15: 16 -20
Then the soldiers led him into the courtyard of the palace (that is, the governor’s headquarters); and they called together the whole cohort. And they clothed him in a purple cloak; and after twisting some thorns into a crown, they put it on him.
And they began saluting him, ‘Hail, King of the Jews!’ They struck his head with a reed, spat upon him, and knelt down in homage to him. After mocking him, they stripped him of the purple cloak and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him out to crucify him.
