+ Guidelines and applications n One guidelines document for both types of grants, but two separate application forms with different requirements

+ learning. futures strategy n The learning. futures strategy incorporates and builds on: n The UTS Model of Learning n The Graduate Attributes Project n And the requirements of the Academic Calendar

+ Learning. futures grant applicants are encouraged to engage with these developments (in guidelines) n Flipped learning’ where students access digital resources and undertake pre-work before coming to classes where they engage in active and collaborative learning, followed by post-work that involves review and reflection on learning. n The increasing development of open, digital libraries that enable students to engage with extensive educational resources and tutorials, and have their understandings of key ideas automatically assessed. n Initiatives relating to innovative uses of learning spaces such as large collaborative theatres and collaborative pod classrooms. n Collaboration technologies (including social media) to support formal and informal peer learning. n Initiatives involving creative, transdisciplinary, project-based and inquirybased learning.

+ Cont. n Authenticity in learning experiences and assessment. n Learning analytics, specifically using data to personalise students' learning experiences or to provide feedback to students on their learning. n Student employability and transition to the workplace, including embedding employability initiatives in the curriculum and developing internship-like experiences. n Academic calendar 2017. Academics may apply for funding to be spent on developing resources or activities for use by students in the orientation weeks or week 1, replacement of mid-semester exams with authentic assessments or similar activities that support improvements to subjects for the balanced teaching period calendar.

+ CIC partnerships n Opportunities to partner with the Connected Intelligence Centre on academic writing and dispositional learning analytics

+ Applications n Download Application form as a Word document and complete n Detailed instructions for each section included in the guidelines n A 2 page project description showing: n A clear rationale with implications for learning and teaching n Project approach including timeline n How you will communicate progress and findings n How outcomes will be sustained

+ Requirements n Funding enables academic and professional staff to engage in innovation, test and modify existing innovations, reconfigure subjects and learning activities, including assessment, or develop new resources for learning. futures. n Must go beyond routine updating of subject materials n Subjects must be learning futures compliant or have the intention of becoming compliant in 2017. n Successful applicants should expect to contribute to the learning. futures website and engage colleagues with their work n Funds must be spent in 2017 n Final project report due February 2018

+ Requirements cont n May include a research component, but must have a development component that directly benefits students n Inclusion of one or more student members in the development team is strongly encouraged n May build on previous projects, provided project report submitted with evidence of earlier project success n Should be consistent with the UTS Strategic Plan 2009 - 2018

+ Video Screencast Grants n Funding of $2000 -$4000, or equivalent professional assistance, to support the development of higher quality video, screencast and similar materials to support student learning, consistent with learning. futures and the balanced teaching periods.

+ Video/Screencasts grants n Must be intended for use in UTS subjects n Should be able to be reused for several teaching sessions n Focus on areas where existing open resources are not available or are not locally relevant

+ Video/Screencast grants cont n Ideally for: n Conceptually difficult areas of subject matter for which relevant open resources are unavailable. n Engaging students with aspects of current professional practice and application of knowledge, for example through video interviews with professionals, case materials etc. n Engaging students with current research or research practices relevant to their subjects. n Enabling new students to learn from previous students about learning in the subject and what it takes to succeed

+ Two types of Video Screencast applications n Applications which request funding for production and other costs n Applications which request internal production support from UTS

+ A specific eligibility requirement n Applicants are required to have participated in the Power of Screen presenting workshops n These were run in 2016 and we plan to run more in 2017

+ Video Deadline is 10 am Friday 24 Feb n However, if you wish to start earlier, you may submit an application earlier and expect to receive a response within one week
