Advantages • Preliminary application first- less wasted time? • No costings required- saves you time. • Much shorter application than NIHR/ MRC • Disadvantages • You have to start the full application anyway • Can’t reapply with the same project (unless requested) • Funds only you

D in epidemiology (Newcastle) 2016 Research Associate (Newcastle) 2017 - Faculty Fellowship (Newcastle) • I’ve stayed in Newcastle but… • Placements (pre-application) at INSERM and Leicester • Worked new collaborators (Newcastle, UCL, INSERM, QMUL) into Wellcome application.

Preliminary & Full applications • • • Use ALL the space on the application form (don’t repeat things & be creative!)
