APPLYING CORE VALUES DAY 2
THE VALUES ARE THE ORGANIZATION
PBT’s Statement of Mission Pioneer Bible Translators exists to disciple the Bible-less, mobilizing God’s people to provide enduring access to God’s Word. Mobilizing God’s people to obey His mandate, Pioneer Bible Translators exists as a team to disciple Bible-less peoples by providing enduring access to God’s Word translated in their languages and maximizing its impact to grow the church.
PBT Desired Impact Transformed Lives: More people knowing, understanding and obeying God
Alternatives Transformed Societies Language Preservation Language Documentation Translations
More Specifically PBT wants: Networks of churches using scripture to grow and multiply “People movements” Disciple making movements A church in every village Transformed behavior
Kingdom Growth Transformed Lives
What is your main goal? What “New Reality” do you want to see?
HOW WILL THE MINISTRY YOU ARE PLANNING FIT INTO THE PBT GOALS?
It is never outside the scope of Bible Translation to obey the Bible.
There is a place for just doing “good” things. But, there has to be a balance “Good” things can consume your life such that you won’t reach your goals
How will you know when you achieve the goal?
Facts are our Friends
Metrics (concrete ways of measuring progress) # of believers # of churches using vernacular in service # of people participating in Bible studies Measurable change in ethical / moral behavior
How do you know if it is working? Indicators -things to look for as you go along Evaluation -after a certain level of progress -internal monitoring of progress -often motivated, monitored by an external source
What about all of those other stakeholders? Local Believers / Churches National Church Local Community Local Government Missionary Co-workers / Community PBT Teammates International Mission board Sending/Sponsoring Congregations
Vision: Transformed lives through God’s Word in every language Mission: Pioneer Bible Translators exists to disciple the Bible-less, mobilizing God’s people to provide enduring access to God’s Word. Expanded Mission Statement: Pioneer Bible Translators exists as a team to disciple Bible-less peoples, mobilizing God’s people everywhere both to provide enduring access to God’s Word translated into their languages and to maximize its impact to grow the Church. Ministry Promise: Pioneer Bible Translators fulfills the Great Commission through the power of the translated Word of God.
Strategies and Methods Pioneer Bible Translators aspires to be the best problemsolving team for helping a people without God’s Word impact their context with Scripture, equipping them to translate it into their language and use it to transform their community. Helping a people group go from Bible-less to Bible impact constitutes our sharp focus. Our flexible, holistic approach is a core strength. We will consider our ministry among a people group complete when a network of churches is using Scripture to grow and multiply. The four primary strategies of PBT are to: Mobilize God’s People Provide enduring access to God’s Word Disciple the Bible-less by maximizing the impact of Scripture Accelerate the mission through team work
Mobilize God’s People Praying to the Lord of the Harvest Calling and equipping God’s people everywhere to pray, give, and volunteer with us Recruiting, training, and sending missionaries, including any children in the family, for excellent service Involving each missionary to mobilize God’s people through partnership development efforts Equipping Bible-less people for partnership
Provide enduring access to God’s Word Determining the need through survey Translating Scripture Developing sustainable literacy programs Joining with others to provide oral, visual, and written Scripture-based materials for church planting and discipleship
Disciple the Bible-less by maximizing the impact of Scripture Living in a way that glorifies God to exemplify the impact of the Bible on us, including personal evangelism and works of compassion Working with existing churches to transition them into greater use of Scripture in their own language Establishing and strengthening churches to maximize the use of the translated Scriptures, working together with partners where they are present Promoting the use of local art and music to increase scripture impact Ministering through community development and community health evangelism in ways that promote the use of Scripture either by building the church’s economic capacity to partner in
Accelerate the mission through teamwork Cooperating and partnering with others Building effective teams Caring for missionaries and their families by promoting mutual love and concern Providing administration and leadership at the international and national levels Providing support services in the field

We do what we do because we value… The Church as God’s instrument to accomplish his mission that all peoples would glorify and worship him Pioneering among the least-reached, Bible-less language groups, planting a network of reproducing churches adapted to the context Enduring Access to God’s Word as essential for life transformation, discipleship, and growing the church Obeying Christ’s Commission by teaching people to follow Jesus and by living out the values of his Kingdom Partnering with like-minded people to accomplish mutual goals Living Incarnationally with the local people, learning from deep relationships and communicating in the most effective language Equipping international workers, their families, and national partners for healthy and effective ministry
Our Ideal Culture (How we serve) Loving each other Acting like Jesus Ministering well together Praying as our core strategy
Loving each other • Extend abundant grace to all, speak the truth in love, and resolve conflict biblically • Show loving care for teammates, because care for coworkers is everyone’s responsibility and opportunity • Value people over organizational structure, policies, and projects • Nurture our children physically, spiritually, intellectually and emotionally as part of the team
Acting like Jesus • Live spiritual, pure lives: worshiping with a local church, reading/obeying the Bible, fasting, and praying • Adapt our lives to the local context by learning culture; avoiding sin and remaining above reproach; maintaining a sacrificial and sustainable lifestyle; avoiding disrespect for cultures and governments
Ministering well together • Intentionally develop effective teams that have fun serving in joyful community • Follow how God leads each team member to a ministry through collaboration with colleagues • Cooperate using a variety of disciplines to achieve the mission e. g. translation, church planting, literacy, development, support services, linguistics etc. • Value equally the ministry of men and women, singles and families, international workers and national colleagues • Lead each other with collaborative, empowering, flexible, servant leadership, listening to the input of those affected by decisions • Follow and be accountable to our leaders in biblical submission • Plan for, measure, and report results, seeking excellence, not perfection • Maintain personal and organizational integrity at every level, true reporting, and financial and legal accountability
Praying as our core strategy
We plan for this future: We will follow the Spirit’s lead to fill the gaps in the Bible Translation movement so that we and our partners will see churches with Scripture transforming every language group on earth by 2050.
