Applications of Augmented Reality in Education Using Microsoft Hololens URCS-09 Introduction Augmented Reality (AR) bridges the gap between real life and Virtual Reality by appending computer generated elements such as images, sound, and haptic feedback to provide a immersive experience without replacing your environment. Apparatus Microsoft Hololens Win 10 Computer Unity 3 D Holo. Anatomy Method ● Holo. Lens allows us to visualize virtual objects in 3 D space. Using Unity allows us to import 3 D models into the Hololens. With this method we are able to view the anatomical structure of a human body, the internal parts of a car engine, and even character models for video games. ● Holo. Anatomy is a great app for Hololens developed by Case Western Reserve University. The app demos the educational uses of augmented reality for medical students displaying the human anatomica structure. Conclusion Augmented reality (AR) is a growing technology that has many potential benefits for education. The main concern for educational uses is the cost to get started. The base model for Microsoft Hololens retails for $3000 USD. Currently Hololens is intended for development uses and has not yet seen a mainstream consumer release. Cheaper alternatives to Hololens such as AR through smartphone apps is possible and may serve as a segue towards mainstream adoption of the technology. The commercial success of Pokemon Go and Snapchat shows the strength of AR on smartphones and demonstrates the potential success for the technology in the future.
