Application Protocol Network Link Utilization Capability Identify network
Application Protocol - Network Link Utilization Capability: • Identify network usage by aggregating application protocol traffic as collected by a traffic flow collector • Trending and reporting of application traffic utilization for selected links or circuits • Analysis is based on the implementation and enablement of proprietary vendor specific supported features and functionality • Flow Exporters: Netflow, J-Flow, S-Flow, CFlow. D, App-Flow, IPFIX • Vendors In order: Cisco, Juniper, Allied Telesis, Alcatel, Ericsson, Citrix

Application Protocol - Network Link Utilization (Cont. ) Default Net. Flow report is per device flow - left diagram Available reports are: • Traffic / Application Overview • Protocol Distribution • Top. N Talkers/Hosts/Receivers • Top. N Conversations • Top. N Ports and • Top. N Applications To establish peer <--> peer end node traffic utilization reports, flows must be manually defined (see next slide)

Application Protocol - Network Link Utilization (Cont. ) A flow is defined as a unidirectional sequence of packets that all share the following 7 values: • • Ingress interface (SNMP if. Index) Source IP address Destination IP address IP protocol Source port for UDP or TCP, 0 for other protocols Destination port for UDP or TCP, type and code for ICMP, or 0 for other protocols IP Type of Service In the diagram that follows there are no manually defined flows
