APPLICATION OF PHOTOGRAPHY

Photography Careers Events Photographer : Goes to events such as Weddings, Parties and Clubs to get the best photos to capture the atmosphere, and that (in the case of a wedding) will need to be adequate for the people hiring and that the families will be happy with. In case of a club or party it will most likely be used in promotional material, or be put on their Facebook to offer a glimpse and an insight into how great or lively the establishment is. Nature Photographer : Takes the most effective, serene and telling pictures of wildlife and nature to then either put on their own websites or blogs for sale and to get better exposure for anyone willing to hire them, or in the case of being hired they may be published in scientific, travel and cultural magazines such as : National Geographic Magazine, National Wildlife Magazine or Audubon Magazine.

Photography Careers (CONT’D) Modelling Photographer : Is hired by a modelling company or magazine to make the most flattering and artful photos and profiles of their models, putting a lot of emphasis on the scenery around them or the lack thereof as well as finding the models best features and amplifying them, they may also be given direction as to what feel they’re supposed to give to the photos and the model themselves to go by their preferred style or type they’ve been portrayed as thus far. Modelling photographers can also be self-employed and post their sets on their own blogs or websites. Sports Photographer : Is hired for sports events like : Football, Basketball, Cricket, Tennis or even the Olympics. They’re expertise is to capture the most important moments with great use of dynamic photography techniques to make the athletes look as good as possible. They are usually hired by newspapers, sports magazines/websites or the holders of the events themselves (Sky Sports, BT Sports, NBA) for promotional material.

Events Photography One of the most famous events photographer is Paul Clarke, he is based in South East Coast of Kent and London. This is one of three examples of his work that I’ve chosen. This photo (named Festival Rainbow) communicates the congenial and relaxed vibe of festivals and shows the free spirit it can bring out of it’s attendees.

Events Photography : Example 2 This example (named Leadenhall Dancing) communicates again a sense of community and spirit to the picture, making it feel alive as well as being very vivid, bright and detailed. The subjects don’t look too blurry like a lot of dynamic photography.

Events Photography : Example 3 This is the third example (named The Great Room) and it commutates a sense of importance, size and prestige to the event going on as well as the room itself. Like the last picture it is very colourful, detailed and vivid plus very pretty to look at, and pick out all the little details.

Event Photography : Origins Paul Clarke has been working with images since 1991, and as an accomplished editor and re-toucher he worked with publications from the London Evening Standard to the Economist. Paul developed an eye for creating memorable images through this work and then decided to go out and make his own pictures. Event Photography : Connections and Employers Paul Clarke works either for miscellaneous clients at parties, events, concerts and weddings, some of which are : British Summer Time, Barclaycard, TEDX, Microsoft and The National Citizen Service. His pictures are usually published on their websites and social medias.

Nature Photography One of the most famous nature photographers is Frans Lanting, he is based in the Netherlands. This is one of three examples of his work that I’ve chosen : This photo (named Icebergs and Ships) communicates a really desolate, serene and simple look to the scenery, looking fittingly glacial but very pretty and vibrant too.

Nature Photography : Example 2 This photo (named Giraffes Namibia) communicates a fresh, warm and dense look to the scenery with tons of detail and scale to the photo making it look very big and vast, but still keeping that core warmth the picture portrays.

Nature Photography : Example 3 This photo (named Blue Iceberg) communicates a sense of the surreal to the scenery, it’s so strange in it’s proportions and it all looks so crisp, detailed yet confounding. With all that being said it’s got bright and beautiful colours, the overwhelming blue conveys much like the last picture a glacial feel to the photo as well.

Nature Photography : Origins Frans Lanting was born in Rotterdam and later emigrated to the United States after being educated in the Netherlands. He now lives in Santa Cruz, California and operates a studio and a gallery, as well as a stock photography services. Nature Photography : Connections and Employers Frans Lanting works regularly with his wife (Who publishes Nature books) as well as doing photos for National Geographic, Photographer, Audubon and Life magazines.

Modelling Photography One of the most famous modelling photographers is Annie Leibovitz, and she is based in Connecticut. This is one of three examples of her work that I’ve chosen : This photo (which was used for the poster of “Les Misérables”(2012)) communicates that Costelle (the character in the photo) has gone through a lot, with the dirt on her face to portray that she’s probably poor, and the emphasis on her blue eyes almost portray her innocence to oppose the dark contents of the film in question.

Modelling Photography : Example 2 This photo (part of Adele's March 2012 Vogue shoot) and It communicates an emphasis on lavish colours and vivid details with every element in the photo almost glowing in elegance, but as well as being a perfect, photogenic and complimentary portrait of the subject in question it is also just a great and aesthetically well constructed photo in it’s own right.

Modelling Photography : Example 3 This photo (of Jessica Chastain for July 2014 Vogue Issue), and it communicates a very naturalistic, old-fashioned and modest portrait of the subject in question showing off that she doesn’t need tons of alterations in post or a lot of makeup to look naturally beautiful. There also seems to be an emphasis on muted greens (the wallpaper and the blanket) making Jessica’s red hair and bright red lipstick more noticeable.

Modelling Photography : Origins Annie Leibovitz started her career as a staff photographer working for Rolling Stone magazine. In 1973, publisher Jann Wenner named Leibovitz chief photographer of Rolling Stone, a job she would hold for 10 years. Leibovitz then worked for the magazine until 1983, and her intimate photographs of celebrities helped define the Rolling Stone look. Modelling Photography : Connections and Employers Annie Leibovitz worked for Rolling Stone until she left for Vanity Fair in 1983 and has worked there ever since, but apart from that she also works regularly with Vogue, she has also worked for films like Star Wars : The Force Awakens and Les Misérables in association with Vanity Fair.

Sports Photography One of the most famous sports photographers is Bob Martin, he is based in England. This is one of three examples of his work that I’ve picked : This photo (of Tracey Miles diving in Rio 1992 Olympics) communicates an unbelievable height and scope to the scenery, making Tracey look above the city in the background. The vividness of the red swimsuit she’s wearing plus the bright blue sky gives the photo a very fascinating look and almost dreamlike quality.

Sports Photography : Example 2 This photo (of Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games) communicates a great use of dynamic photography with how it captures such a high octane situation so pristinely, the snow falling around them only adds to the denseness of the photo. It also portrays the team spirit and brotherhood of bobsledding too.

Sports Photography : Example 3 This photo (of a Chinese coach training his pupil at Beijing National Aquatics Centre) this communicates the at times unfair and harsh practises that Chinese sports put their youngest through. It raises a lot of issues and the use of minimal light and colour (all through silhouette) this almost thematically matches the events in the photo as well as looking darkly beautiful in it’s own right.

Sports Photography : Origins Bob Martin has been in the business of sports photography for thirty years, and has photographed every major sporting event for the last fourteen years including the Summer and Winter Olympics, Elephant Polo and Horse Racing on ice. Sports Photography : Connections and Employers Bob Martin has worked regularly with Sports Illustrated, Time, Newsweek, Life Magazine, Stern, Paris match, Bunte, L Equipe, The Sunday Times and the New York Times. Bob is currently working for Brazil 2016 consulting on photographic issues for the Olympics

Conclusion Overall I have learned that there are many ventures and sectors within the medium of photography in which people can express themselves, adapt to their environments and be incredibly creative whilst doing so. They can also become incredibly famous and wealthy through this too, and can really make a name for themselves as the best in their craft. It shows to me that I can do whatever I want in the photography and film world as it is so vast and eclectic that anyone can join this world and be adept, niche and distinct to making their own lane in the field of work, or possibly creating a whole new one.
