INTRODUCTION • The use of an industrial mobile computer workstation has become standard practice within the healthcare industry. Gone are the days of medical practitioners struggling to decode handwritten notes. • Modern electronic health records have improved the quality of patient care and communication between staff. Meanwhile, using computers, tablets, and smartphones enables doctors and nurses to manage treatment more effectively.
Central Monitoring System • Nurses in the Central Monitoring Station (CMS) function as a consultant for the cardiopulmonary technicians who monitor and interpret cardiac physiological data, detecting and documenting any changes in heart rhythm and arrhythmias according to department standards.
DISTRIBUTED DATA BASE SYSTEM • Computer-based patient monitoring and medical data management systems are expanding at a rapid rate. Advances in hardware capabilities, coupled with tumbling price structures, have facilitated the introduction of computer systems in clinical areas of the hospital including intensive care units, the clinical laboratory and the pharmacy (1, 2). To a lesser extent these systems have been used for hospital- wide data retrieval and medical data management.
CONCLUSION • In addition to all these benefits, computers still need to be specially designed for use in healthcare facilities. Medical certifications, antibacterial enclosures, and devices that are easily cleaned are imperative to hygiene and safety in these organizations. Just placing a consumer-grade computer without these features into a hospital could ultimately cause more problems than it would help.
