Introduction Appian has organized 11 competencies necessary for effective platform governance. These competencies should be used to not only better understand organize your organization’s strategic approach to platform governance, but also to guide future resource prioritization and planning. Effective platform governance makes the whole stronger through a variety of ways including: • Promoting portfolio-wide best practices and reuse of common components • Instilling program level accountability • Implementing platform level metrics which inform a health strategy

Overview Goals • • Assess the relative strengths and weaknesses of your current Appian program management practices. Identify potential blind spots in your approach. Build consensus among key stakeholders about key priorities. Identify areas of misalignment and/or disagreement with respect to governance strategy and implementation. Who should use the tool • Platform owners, project leaders, key stakeholders, partners (if applicable) How the tool is used • Rate your organization’s posture on each of the 11 competencies • See next slide for grading instructions Outcomes • • Group discussion on any misalignment or substantial score differences. • Build consensus Use final aggregated scoring to prioritize governance investments. Identify Appian resources for areas of weakness. Create a tangible understanding of what “good” looks like in priority areas.

Scoring Instructions Use the scoring guide below to help complete the assessment on the next slide: ● Grade “Priority” on a scale from 1 -5 based on how important a given competency is to your organization. ● Grade “Proficiency” on a scale from 1 -5 based on your team’s abilities to effectively complete tasks associated with a given competency. Priority Proficiency 1= Not a Priority 2= Low Priority 1= Nonexistent (Don’t have this at all) 3= Medium Priority 2= Poor (Done irregularly or ad-hoc) 4= High Priority 3= Average (Done sometimes with minor scheduling) 5= Critical Priority 4= Good (Done regularly and systematically) 5= Excellent (Good rating + continuous improvement)
