Apparent Solar Motions from Earth i. e. how the sun appears to move.
The sun is NEVER directly overhead in WNY. Ever.
But wait… where could this be? Only at the equator and only around the equinoxes
How ‘bout this? But where could this be? When? NO.
Could this ever be WNY? Not really. This would be somewhere further north on the equinoxes.
How ‘bout now? Still, no. This would be somewhere further SOUTH on the equinoxes.
This is approximately us in NY What is solar noon?
To calculate the height of the sun at local noon… Equinoxes: solar altitude at noon = 90° - latitude = 90° - 43° = 47° above horizon at local noon Summer solstice = 90° - latitude + 23. 5° = 70. 5° Winter solstice = 90° - latitude - 23. 5° = 23. 5°
