APL Public Laptop Pilot Scope of Laptop Project
APL Public Laptop Pilot
Scope of Laptop Project • Conduct 3 month pilot program to evaluate feasibility of public use laptops • 6 laptops for public use, plus 2 spares • Muldoon library will serve as test bed
Project Objectives • Replicate patron’s public desktop PC experience with public laptops (hardware and software, look and feel) • Fast, durable, and appealing to the patrons • Draw increased numbers of young patrons to the library (i. e. teenagers and preteens) • Facilitate group usage of a single laptop • Ease of use for staff librarians (checking in/out) • Standard patron experience between all libraries (standard configuration) • Configurable for AML staff training (portable lab)
ITD Service Level Agreement • Ensure 80% availability – Response to initial problem within 1 business day – Return to service within 7 business days • Metrics – Compile metrics of problems, response times, and laptop availability. This information can then be used by AML to decide if the public laptop program will be fully implemented
