Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO & Depth of Field GUIDELINE FOR PHOTO TAKING USING DSLR.
DSLR – Digital Single Reflex Lens, Intro What is a DSLR? u A digital single-lens reflex camera (digital SLR or DSLR) is a digital camera that uses a mechanical mirror system and pentaprism to direct light from the lens to an optical viewfinder on the back of the camera. u A digital SLR. Exactly the same as an SLR except that a digital sensor is used to capture the image instead of film. See SLR.

The Photographic Triangle In Manual Exposure, you need to know the basic exposure concept. These will help you make consistently correct exposures. A correct exposure is the combination of 3 important factors: aperture, shutter speed & ISO. This 3 factor are the heart of every exposure.
Introduction to ISO What is ISO? u. Sensitivity of the image sensor Given Scenario: Lets relate ISO as an amount of worker bees. If I use ISO 100, I have 100 worker bees; if you use ISO 200, you have 200 worker bees. The job of these bees is to gather LIGHT coming through the lens @ an apearture of f/5. 6 (meaning the same volume[amount] of light comes through our lenses). Q: Who will record the image the quickest, you or me? A: You, since you have 2 x as many worker bees at ISO 200 that I do at ISO 100.
Introduction to Shutter Speed (Tv) How does Shutter Speed relates to ISO? Given Scenario Subject: A Lone flower Aperture: f/5. 6 Your ISO: 200 My ISO: 100 So when you adjust your shutter speed to get the correct exposure, you will roughly get 1/250 sec. But when I adjust my shutter speed for a correct exposure, I need 1/125 sec. Verdict: I need a longer exposure (My shutter takes a longer time to open an close. Why? Because your 200 worker bees need only haly as much time as my 100 worker bees.
Introduction to Aperture is the hole or opening located inside the lens. This hole is formed by a series of six overlapping metal blades. When You make Aperture adjustment, the size of the openings in the lens either decreases or increases. This, in turn, allows more light or less light to pass through the lens and onto the sensor. PLACE PICTURE
Introduction to Aperture When you shift from a small aperture number to a larger one, you are reducing the size of the opening. Thus the Aperture size affects how fast your shutter speed needs to create an image. The larger the opening, the faster the shutter speed.
Aperture & Depth Of Field Normal Depth of Field: Subject and Background can be seen.
Aperture & Depth Of Field Shallow Depth of Field: Subject can be clearly seen but the background is blurred.
Aperture & Depth Of Field What does depth of field got to do with aperture? ①The larger the opening, the shallow the depth of field. Background will be completely thrown out of focus. ②The smaller the aperture, the lesser the background will be thrown out of focus
Aperture & Depth Of Field
Importance of Shutter Speed Shutterspeed controls the effects of motion in your pictures, and this is why it is such an integral part of exposure. Fast shutter speed freeze action. Slow ones record the action as a blur
Task Complete all 4 Exercise using a DSLR camera. Ex 1 & Ex 2 will be conducted in the Computer Lab. Ex 3 & Ex 4 will be conducted at the school garden. As a group you will show the result to me and i will mark accordingly. Each Day Group will form into sub-groups & in your sub-group, complete the 4 tasks.
