1. a. Title Page and Running Heads Title Page: v v Page number one in the top right corner Title is bolded A space is included after the title Information can vary, based on instructor requirements (byline, author affiliation, author note, etc. ) Running Heads: v For student papers, the running head is no longer required. v For those intending to publish, the header will still include the all-caps shortened title of the paper, but will no longer use the phrase “Running head: ” (Purdue Online Writing Lab, 2020 b)

Abstract and First Page of Text Abstract: v Title “Abstract” is bold, title case, and centered on page after the title page v Typically no more than 250 words v Should be one paragraph that is not indented First Page of Text: v Title should be included at the top of the first page of text, formatted as a level one heading. v Body text will match the font type and size. 2. Style Changes v Singular “they” is encouraged compared to “his or her, ” “his/her, ” or “s/he” Ex 1: “Smith (2019) found that employee turnover is still a problem. They suggested that companies engage with employees more to find solutions. ” Ex 2: “Their other research explored solutions for the identified issues. ” v Descriptive phrases like “those with a disability” should be used in place of nouns (i. e. the disabled). v One space after a period. v Size 12 font for Times New Roman. v Size 11 font for Georgia, Calibri, Arial, Lucida sans Unicode. 4. In-Text Citations

4. In-text Citations v “et al. ” is now used beginning with the first mention of three or more authors. v Still uses pattern of author, publication year, and page number. • End citation: “…end of quote” (Smith, 2014, p. 5). • Signal Phrase: According to Smith (2014), “working in the neuroscience field is as rewarding as it is difficult” (p. 5). Note: APA 7 still uses past tense for signal verbs (stated, researched, studied, etc. ) (Purdue Online Writing Lab, 2020 c)

5. Reference Pages

5. a. Reference Page Formatting v Still begins on a new page at the end of the paper v “References” should be bold and centered with an extra space after the line (level one heading). v If two or more works are used from the same author, APA 7 recommends checking for more specific dates. v Reference sections now name up to twenty authors before the use of “et al. ” (Purdue Online Writing Lab, 2020 f)
