General Formatting • Main parts of APA paper • Title page • Abstract • Main body (the paper itself) • Sections • References • EVERYTHING IS DOUBLE SPACED

Title Page • Header section • Title of paper, left-aligned, in this format: • Running Head: TITLE OF PAPER • (must say ”Running head” on title page only • Title in all caps • Page number right-aligned • All other pages should have just the TITLE leftaligned. No need to write “Running head”

• Title and author info • Type your title in upper and lowercase letters centered in the upper half of the page. • Beneath the title, type the author's name: first name, middle initial(s), and last name. Do not use titles (Dr. ) or degrees (Ph. D). • Beneath the author's name, type the institutional affiliation, which should indicate the location where the author(s) conducted the research.

Abstract • Ask your professor whether they require an abstract for your assignment. • An Abstract a concise summary of the key points of your paper • Abstract should be 150 -250 words • 1 paragraph, no indentations.

Paper (main body) • Keep title in all caps left-aligned in the header • Keep page numbers right-aligned. (Just give the number, no reason to write “pg” or “page”) • Last page of your paper is “References” page (just like your Works Cited page in MLA)

Reference List • Reference list is always on its own page. • Every line after the first line for each source is indented (hanging indent) • Organize entries alphabetically by last name • Easybib or Bibme is your friend for creating reference list entries. • Only capitalize the first word in title (and subtitle), and proper nouns,

Difference between MLA and APA • MLA: lastname, firstname. Title. Publisher, publication date. • Stone, Daniel. The Food Explorer: the True Adventures of the Globe. Trotting Botanist Who Transformed the American Dinner Table. New American Library, 2018. • APA: Lastname, 1 st initial. (pub year). Title. Publisher. • Stone, D. (2018). The food explorer: The true adventures of the globetrotting botanist who transformed the American dinner table. New American Library.

Parentheticals (in-text citations) • Every citation should include authors last name, and year of publication, and page if relevant. • Author’s last name and year of publication should be next to each other. • Page number should be after the quote. • Options: • In 2018, Stone asserted that “Fairchild was known for this erratic behavior” (p. 23). • According to Stone (2018) , “Fairchild was known for his erratic behavior” (p. 23) • It was well-documented that “Fairchild was known for this erratic behavior” (Stone, 2018, p. 23).

Review • Headings are different • Title page and abstract • Reference list • In text citations include date of publication in addition to author’s last name and page number.
