How to do an • • Example: Abstract • With increasing frequency (and varying levels of effectiveness), technologicallymediated communication has been harnessed by people for use in personal relationships. Whereas this has allowed victims of intimate partner violence (IPV) to utilize electronic forms of aid and social support, technological avenues also are adopted by perpetrators – to more invasively abuse their victims. This study assessed 495 IPV victims’ (157 men, 338 women) reports of personal technology-related IPV experiences. Qualitative reports were thematically analyzed for typological variety of technology used by their former abusive partners. These categories further were evaluated according to the perceived invasiveness (i. e. , perpetration effectiveness) of the medium. Findings are discussed in terms of applications to IPV victims and implications for future IPV measurement in society with emerging-technological forms of communication.
