What is it? • The second of the three Free-Response-Questions on the AP Exam

What is it? • The second of the three Free-Response-Questions on the AP Exam (although you do not have to do it 2 nd) • An essay discussing characteristics that changed and stayed the same in a given region between two time periods. – Comparison essay, but across time rather than region.

What is it? • The CCOT essays asks you to analyze the changes and continuities that take place over a certain time period – Will focus on specific global theme (trade, migration, technology, culture, environment, etc…) – Often allow you some choice (two countries, religions, etc…)

Change vs. Continuity • Changes are things that are different during a certain period

Change vs. Continuity • Changes are things that are different during a certain period of time – During your lifetime, what are some changes? • House? Friends? Schools? Height? Musical tastes? • Continuities are things that are happening (or stay the same) during a certain period of time – During your lifetime, what are some continuities? • House? Parents? Hair Color? Siblings? – Must be present at the beginning of a designated time period and still there at the end.
