CALCULATOR TIPS q. Store equations CAREFULLY (double/triple check) in Y= & use VARS > YVARS to evaluate (especially on FRQs!) q. Save points of intersection with STO> Write down the letter you stored it as & indicate it visually on diagrams if available. q. Write down what you type in your calculator before you type it in q. Turn off functions you don’t need to graph (unhighlight the = sign) q. Only graph the window you’re concerned with q. Read ahead while your calc is graphing q. Calculators may not be cleared before the exam. Plan accordingly!

GEN ERAL FRQ TIPS q. Erase mistakes CROSS OUT – it saves time q. Write the GIVEN name of the function instead of copying down the function (over and over). q. No “It”, “the graph”, “the function”, “the derivative”, etc. q. Don’t forget to write dt, dh, dx, dy, d(theta), etc. at the end of integrals q. For every justification, restate the bounds q. Don’t forget your initial condition! q. Memorize 4 known series q. Nth Term Test only tests for divergence!

GEN ERAL FRQ TIPS q. Use a table INCLUDING ENDPOINTS for every max, min, absolute max, absolute min q. Sign charts aren’t enough to justify! q. Make sure you ACTUALLY WRITE derivative = 0 and the solutions to that equation. q. Show all work and include units (when provided) even if a questions doesn’t expressly ask you to q. Label all charts, expressions, graphs, tables, etc. that you use q. Establish conditions for theorems you use q. Unless stated (READ CAREFULLY) you don’t have to simplify algebraic or numeric answers (even trig!)

GENERAL TIPS FOR MC q. You will PROBABLY have extra time at the end. If you do, go back and reread questions without being biased by your original answer. q. When in doubt, skip it til you’ve finished the “easy ones” q. Read the whole question. Underline key words and whether the function is/isn’t a derivative. q. Read ALL of the answers before choosing one q“Distractor answers” will be calculus mistakes, not algebra mistakes (if your answer isn’t there, it’s because you did something wrong with algebra – if you see your answer, it’s either right or a calculus mistake!) q. When 10 minute warning is given keep an eye on the clock and make sure ALL BUBBLES HAVE BEEN BUBBLED before time is called. You do not lose points for wrong answers, but you can gain points for accidentally right ones!

You have the best calc teachers…you are more prepared than most people. q. You KNOW the material. Let your muscle memory take over. q. You have passed this class. You will pass the test. q. Ask yourself, “What would my calculus teacher do? ” q. We’ve got this. Stay alive. Derive. Get a five.
