MODULE 2 1. 2. Setting the stage (3 minutes) Free association
Global warming effect on people’s lives Our planet is becoming hotter. But what effect will global warming have, in your opinion, on people’s lives? Some countries will probably be more seriously affected by climate change, while others may adapt more easily…
Expansion Have you ever heard of Katrina? The USA, from 24 th to 30 th August 2005, was victim to Katrina, one of the strongest and most devastating hurricanes ever experienced. It reached speeds of 224 km per hour and brought with it an enormous amount of rain. New Orleans, the jazz capital of the world, suffered more than other cities. The city lies on swampland, mostly below sea level. Katrina destroyed the levees built to protect the city, and, by 31 st August, 80% of it was under water. More than 1800 people died as a result of Katrina, the majority in New Orleans.
Have you ever heard of extreme heat waves? Periods of very hot temperatures during the summer are becoming more common because of global warming. Sometimes people die because it is too hot and, in Africa, leads to a rise in water scarcity, crop failure and malnutrition.
READING READING Activity one: read answer about the future scenarios ( 20 minutes) A. B. C. D. E. F. Which areas are most at risk because of global warming? Where could a warmer climate prove to be beneficial and why? Where will agricolture expand where will it diminish? Where will ice melt? Which countries might become colder? Which consequences of global warming can be considered
2 Lesson Activity 2: read “Turning green" and then Look at the spider-graph (30 minutes)
Write in the bubble

Lesson 3 Activity 3: survey (20 minutes) Are you environmental friendly? Working in group, prepare a questionnaire (about three -four questions) to find out if your classmates are environment’s friends and answer.
Activity 4 (10 minutes) Then make a poster with the best attitudes by which you can help the environment (about five-six recommendations to improve the situation).
