Life Facts • Born in Reus, Catalonia, 25 th June 1852 • Died 10 th June 1926
• He was the youngest of five • Between 1875 and 1878, Gaudí completed his compulsory military service in the infantry regiment in Barcelona as a Military Administrator • His poor health kept him from having to fight in the Third Carlist war, which lasted from 1872 to 1876 • During this time (1872 -76) Gaudí studied architecture at the Llotja School and the Barcelona Higher School of Architecture, graduating in 1878 Gaudí (in the background) with his father (centre), his niece Rosa and doctor Santaló ~1904~
• In 1910, an exhibition in the Grand Palais of Paris was devoted to his work, during the annual salon of the Société des Beaux-Arts (Fine Arts Society) of France • Gaudí devoted his life entirely to his profession, remaining single
How he became a famous architect: He graduated in 1878 from the Llotja School and the Barcelona Higher School of Architecture, and from here is first projects were the lampposts he designed for the Plaça Reial in Barcelona, the unfinished Girossi newsstands, and the Cooperativa Obrera Mataronense (Workers' Cooperative of Mataró) building. After this, he was known, In 1883 Gaudí was put in charge of the recently-initiated project to build a Barcelona cathedral called Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família. He worked on this for his whole life, whilst working on other projects. He became very busy so he and his team were working on multiple projects at a time. Once he was known he became a famous, much wanted architect.
Casa Mila
Casa Mila • The Casa Mila is a building designed by Gaudi, and built between 1906 -1912. • The Casa Mila is popularly known as La Pedrera, and nowadays is the headquarters of Fundació Catalunya-La Pedrera and houses a cultural centre that is a reference point in Barcelona for the range of activities it organises and the different spaces for exhibitions and other public uses it contains.
Park Guell
Park Guell • Park Guell is a garden complex with architectural elements, in Barcelona Spain. • It was designed by Antoni Gaudi, and built between 1900 -1914 • It is one of the largest architectural works in South Europe (an extension of 17. 18 ha), and is a Muncipal Garden full of wonderful architectural Feats by Gaudi including roof mosaics, mosaic covered buildings, and beautiful, long mosaic walls.
The Sagrada Família
The Sagrada Família • The Sagrada Família was designed by Gaudi, and began building on 19 March, 1882 and is still in construction. • It is a Large Roman Catholic Church, in Barcelona, Spain which was a project set by the diocesan architect Francisco de Paula del Villar (1828 -1901).
