Anthropometrics and Ergonomics Anthropometric data is the study of human measurements such as dimensions

Anthropometrics and Ergonomics Anthropometric data is the study of human measurements such as dimensions and physical characteristics. It enables designers to make and design comfortable and safe products. In my product I need to consider; • The age group (age 3 and under) • The strength of the person using it • Reach Designed using the range of 100% spectrum where 50% is the average sized person • Posture • Clearance Ergonomics is the relationship between a product and its user. In this case the size of the product will need to be designed with the measurements of an average child’s hand under three so that the audiobook will be suitable to play with and therefore listen to without any discomfort to the consumer. 1

Anthropometric and Immediate Environment research When designing the product I need to make sure

Anthropometric and Immediate Environment research When designing the product I need to make sure that I am designing it to meet the needs of my targeted audience There are many aspects that correlate to the human form that can enable my product to work effectively. Things that I need to consider are; • Colour – how my product will be recognised to the consumer • Shape – how the shape will effect the way that the consumer uses the product • Size – how big it needs to be in relation to the size of the human body and the i. Pod itself • Sound – the sound quality will have a detrimental impact on the tuning of the product and the way in which the docking station will play the music The most important aspect to the human body will be the width of the hand width of the little finger because this will effect the size of my product and how the consumer can hold it. Stereotypes – can be useful designers. Not everyone is the same, however people can be put into different groups. Products can therefore be designed to equate to a specific group of people The width of the hand will tell me how my design will need to be designed so that the i. Pod can be retracted from the position it is in Anthropometrics – because designers use the 5 th to 95 th percentage the when resting in the docking station restrictions are taken within the most common feature of the product 2
