What is Title I ?
Title I provides federal funding to schools to help students who are low achieving or most at risk of falling behind. .
Title I is allocated to schools based on the percentage of students receiving free/reduced lunch. Schools with a percentage of at least 40% are eligible for a schoolwide program
• The school must collect and analyze data that effects student achievement. • The school must develop a comprehensive plan and annually review the effectiveness of the plan.
Fort Street School is eligible for and operates a Title I Schoolwide Program.
The school uses Title I funds to upgrade the Schoolwide means: entire educational program of the school. Title I funds are used to serve all children in order to raise academic achievement. Title I funds will be used to provide additional assistance to all students who experience difficulties in meeting performance targets.

To provide Instruction to all students in Pre. K to grade 6 in the areas of ELA, math and technology Goals: To increase percentage of proficiency in reading and math To increase parent attendance at annual meetings To provide professional development opportunities for Fort Street School staff
Curriculum and Instructional Strategies: The Title 1 staff are available to work with individual students on an as needed basis as determined by classroom teachers at grade level meetings. The Reading Recovery program continues to help students who are struggling with beginning reading skills. Within a short period of time struggling readers make significant gains. Quarterly assessments have been developed and implemented for grades PK-6 in literacy and math. These assessments help target instruction and identify achievement gaps.
STAR Assessment Students in grades 1 -6 will participate in the STAR online assessment. The results of this assessment will be used to align instructional strategies to standards to improve student achievement. The results will also be used to place students in the appropriate RTI group. The RTI groups will be used for skill reinforcement and development.
State Assessment All Maine students in grades 3 -8 and grade 11 are assessed using a state selected assessment. The assessment is administered in the spring. The Principal’s newsletter and/or Coffee Talk, the Superintendent’s newsletter, will keep you informed of the dates of the assessment.
Parental Communication of their child’s progress Progress reports are sent home to parents of students in grades 1 -6. All grade 3 -6 parents receive progress reports. Grade 1 and 2 parents receive progress reports as needed. All parents receive quarterly rank cards (Pk-6). Quarterly benchmarks are sent home to parents of students in grades 1 -6.

Parent’s Right to Know – Student Achievement • The ESEA Dashboard contains the District and school report card. The Dashboard can be accessed at • https: //msad 42. org/title-1/
• The principal’s newsletter and the superintendent’s Coffee Talk newsletter will inform parents of the availability of this information.
Parent Notification - Teacher Qualifications As a parent of a student in Fort Street School, you have the right to know the professional qualifications of your child’s classroom teacher(s). Specifically, you have the right to request the following information about each of your child’s classroom teachers: • Whether the teacher meets the state qualifications and licensing criteria for the grades and subjects he or she teaches. • Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or provisional status because of
• The teacher’s college major, whether the teacher has any advanced degrees, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree. • Whether educational technicians provide services to your child and, if so, their qualifications. You can become involved in the ESEA team. This team, made up of administrators, teachers and parents meets annually to review Title 1 policies and the schoolwide plan. If you are interested in participating on this team please indicate your interest by contacting me (linda@sad 42. us) or see me at the conclusion of the meeting.
Teacher Pages • To access the new teacher pages section go to the school website, https: //msad 42. org and on the top menu look for the link that says Elementary Classes and click on it. The link will take you directly to the Google Drive folder that staff will be using. Once you are to the Google Drive section just double click on the teachers name and it will take you into their section. Teachers will be uploading newsletters and any other information that they need to send out.
