ASER PAKISTAN 2010 -2015 q Citizen led large scale national household survey (3 -16). q Measure quality of education in rural and some urban areas (5 -16 years). q Seeks to provide evidence on learning and access gaps. Objectives are: q To get reliable estimates of the status of children’s schooling and basic learning (reading and arithmetic level) at the district level. q To measure the change in these basic learning and school statistics from last year.

Scale Coverage: Across Pakistan ASER 2012: 136 districts across Pakistan (136 Rural + 6 Urban /5 overlap with rural districts) Sindh: 22 district in 2012 compared to 17 districts in 2011 Sample: 600 households per district. Two-stage stratified sample; q 30 Villages q 20 Households per village 60 Schools per district q 2 Schools per village (1 Govt. & 1 Private school)

What are children learning in Hyderabad schools? Hyderabad when compared to all rural districts of Sindh the learning levels are not good in English and Math. q Hyderabad dose not come in the Top 9 rural districts in learning levels in these subjects. q
Private Supplementary Tuition? Rural Urban • 74% (Rural) and 53% (Urban) Children from Pvt. Schools And 3%(Rural) and 25% (Urban) Children from Public Schools are attending Paid Tuition.

Continued Dialogues with Parliamentarians and Politicians in 2013 for elections, manifestoes and actionable steps that can be tracked q. Linking the ASER information to national data and GMR /UN Human Development Reports /others in the run up to 2015 & post 2015 debates q.
