WELCOME TO THE DEGROOTE PE | VC ASSOCIATION The De. Groote Private Equity & Venture Capital Association seeks to develop the future generation of Private Equity & Venture Capital professionals at the De. Groote School of Business through education, networking and professional development. The De. Groote PE | VC is committed to its members through our 3 pillars of development: Education Networking Professional Development
II 2018/2019 Executive Team
2018/2019 EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE Davis Fowler Davis is in his 4 th year of Commerce at the De. Groote School of Business. This summer, Davis was a Summer Analyst at RBC Global Asset Management where he has gained exposure to equity analysis as well as Trading. This year, Davis looks forward to leading the Association’s growth efforts. Corey Livingstone Corey is in his 4 th year of Commerce at the De. Groote School of Business. This summer, Corey was a Summer Analyst with Pepsi's Corporate Development division where he assists with the analysis and evaluation of potential M&A transactions. This year, Corey looks forward to leading the Association’s corporate partnership efforts. Connor Hicks Connor is a 3 rd year Commerce student at the De. Groote School of Business. This summer, Connor was a Summer Analyst at CIBC. As Vice President, Connor looks forward to supporting the Association’s growth efforts.
2018/2019 EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE Stephan Matrakchine Stephan is a 3 rd year Commerce student at the De. Groote School of Business. In the past, Stephan completed an Internship with Tap Mango. As Director of Marketing, Stephan looks forward to supporting the Association’s growth efforts. Daniel Fellows Daniel is a 4 th year Commerce student at the De. Groote School of Business. Recently, Daniel completed a 16 month Consulting Internship with Prophix Software. Havana Liang Havana is a 3 rd year Commerce student at the De. Groote School of Business. Previously serving as an Associate, this year Havana looks forward to leading the Association’s growth and sponsorship efforts. Siemens Ogbeide Siemens is a 2 nd year Commerce student at the De. Groote School of Business. As Senior Associate, Siemens is looking forward to leading the Associate Program and learning more about Private Equity.

OVERVIEW OF PRIVATE EQUITY Private Equity is capital that is not listed on a public exchange. Private Equity firms invest in private companies directly through equity investments or buyout entire public companies. Private Equity firms raise funds which typically last for 5 -7 years. Investors in these funds are known as Limited Partners which include institutional or high net worth investors. Growth Equity: Minority investments in mature companies seeking capital for expansions, debt repayments & acquisitions Leveraged Buyouts: Entire companies are acquired using a large percentage of debt to finance the acquisition. OVERVIEW OF VENTURE CAPITAL Venture Capital is financing from individuals & financial institutions that is provided to high risk start-up companies with high growth potential & long term stability In Canada, the Venture Capital industry is growing rapidly as a result of attractive investment opportunities in the area of Fin. Tech. According to the CVCA, Canadian VC investments grew 42% to $3. 3 bn in 2016 and 11% to $3. 5 bn in 2017 Key players in the industry include:

RESUME RULES Simple § 11 -12 point font size, no elaborate fonts, designs, logos, or objects § Keep it to one page, but maximize every inch of space (stretch those margins) Customized § Make it interesting and relatable § A section for skill, interests, hobbies etc § Awards and recognitions Informative § Use bullet points to describe experiences (value added, initiative, improvements) § STAR Statements § Use numbers Prepared § “Walk me through your resume” § Keep it honest § Get others to review it

NETWORKING TIPS With the recruiting timeline being pushed early, its important to start networking as soon as possible Utilize Linked. In to find out where some of the Mc. Master Alumni are working and reach out Utilize the Student Success Centre and look out for any career connections Set yourself up for informational interviews / coffee chats with industry professionals (preferably in your vocation) to seek advice and build rapport Meeting Preparation Come prepared to these coffee chats with a few key talking points Read up on current news Dress in formal business attire Most of these coffee chats happen in Toronto during the weekdays so do plan ahead of time when your travelling down there Follow-up
