Anne-Louis Girodet de Roussy-Trioson , conhecido como Anne -Louis Girodet , nasceu em Montargis , França, em 5 de janeiro de 1767. Iniciou seus estudos de pintura sob a orientação de um pintor parisiense chamado Luquin , ingressando na escola de Jacques. Louis David aos 18 anos de idade, onde foi um dos alunos mais talentosos. Em 1789, com apenas 22 anos de idade, com sua obra, “Joseph, reconnu par ses frères ”, Girodet venceu a competição “Prix de Rome ”. Dando continuidade à sua formação artística, foi para a Itália, onde permaneceu até 1793. Depois de ter regressado à França, dedicou-se, entre outros gêneros, à pintura de retratos. Girodet foi um dos precursores do movimento romântico na pintura francesa ao introduzir elementos de erotismo nas suas obras. Foi o retratista preferido da família de Napoleão Bonaparte. Girodet executou também um grande número de ilustrações, entre as quais as destinadas à edição da obra de “Virgílio” e “The Works of Racine”, uma série de três volumes conhecida como “Louvre Editions ”, trabalhos editados pelo impressor parisiense Pierre Didot (1799). Girodet era membro da “Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture ”. Foi feito cavaleiro da “Ordem de Saint-Michel” e oficial da “ Légion d'Honneur ”. Morreu em Paris, em 9 de dezembro de 1824. Biography : Anne-Louis Girodet de Roussy-Trioson , known as Anne-Louis Girodet , was born in Montargis , France, on January 5, 1767. He began studying painting under the supervision of a Parisian painter named Luquin , joining the school of Jacques. Louis David at 18 years of age, where he was one of the most talented students. In 1789, just 22 years old , with his work “Joseph, reconnu par ses frères ”, Girodet won the “Prix of Rome ” competition. He went to Italy to continue his artistic training, where he remained until 1793. After coming back to France, he devoted himself , among other genres , to the painting of portraits. Girodet was one of the precursors of the Romantic movement in French painting by introducing elements of eroticism in his works. He was the favorite portraitist of the family of Napoleon Bonaparte. Girodet also executed a large number of illustrations, including those for editing the work of “Virgil” and “The Works of Racine”, a suite of three volumes, known as the “Louvre Editions”, edited by Parisian printer Pierre Didot (1799). Girodet was a member of the “Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture ”. He was made knight of the “Order of Saint. Michel” and oficial of the “ Légion d’Honneur ”.
