The project • Old wooden box culvert under Bay Street is reaching the end of its functional life • Annapolis Creek is impacted by culvert (partial blockage to fish) – alluvial fan is constricted • Constricted stream channel and impoundments result in significant upstream flooding during high tide/rain events. • Replace existing culvert system with a new, engineered fish friendly passage

The problem • The culvert is beginning to fail in spots and is affecting the road surface above • There are significant utilities present under the roadway that are built into the culvert (sewer, water, etc. )

Since we proposed this NTA • Culvert has had a minor structural failure that required emergency repair to maintain roadway and utilities • Emergency repair is only a “band-aid”, a more permanent fix is necessary What has changed • The culvert is degrading faster than originally anticipated • The City is currently negotiating with an engineering firm to develop a design for remedying the problem

How we are addressing these changes • We have moved some funding around internally

How we are addressing these changes • We have moved some funding around internally to fast track a design • We currently do not have money to fund construction • Phase I of the NTA needs to be revised to include this update • We are hoping to steer the NTA towards construction funding assistance
