What language did they speak They spoke Ojibwe, Algonquin, Potawatomi and Anishinaabemowin in the Anishinabe tribe.
Clothing The women of the Anishinabe tribe wore dresses with removable sleeves. Men of Anishinabe tribe wore leggings and breechcloth. Fun fact Anishinabe people would usually recognize people by their style of clothing. Later on when Europeans arrived the Anishinabe tribe adapted their culture such as jackets and fancy bead work. (Odeya)
Where Did The Ojibwe Tribe Live ? ? ? Chippewa Indians aka the Ojibwe lived mostly in Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, and Ontario. A lot of them speak a form of the Algonquian language and were very closely related to the Ottawa and Potawatomi Indians. (Natanel)
Anishinabe family shelter (Naomi) The most common Anishinabe home was called a Wigwam. A small Wigwam could hold about 1012 people, a larger Wigwam could hold about 22 -24 people. The women would cut about 5 spruce poles and put it at the top for the base. Shorter poles were then put on the hoop so there would be lots of strength and support on the covering. The frame was made so that the door would face away from the wind. The door was covered with birch bark, the birch bark pieces were then soaked in hot water “to make it flexible and resistant to tearing”. The holes(doorway) were made by using tools that were usually made from bone or an animal’s tooth. They would now overlap the hot pieces of birch bark to create the wiwam, they would mostly start from the bottom and work their way up to the top. They overlapped the birch bark a couple times so that rain and wind would not really come in. The last step they did was by putting extra birch bark pieces against it so that it wouldn't fall over when there were strong storms. There were also more types of shelter for example, Longhouses, Teepees, Igloos, Grass houses, Wattle and Daub Houses, Chickees, and more.
Food The Anishinabe tribe ate various different foods but there main source of food was fish. They would boil, grill and preserve the fish for winter. Some of the animals they would eat are: rabbits, deer, moose. The Anishinabe tribe grew food such as corn, squash and pumpkins. Lastly they ate berries that they found. (Odeya) They moved around every season to a new camp so they could survive.
