CONTEXT Context is always important. We need to consider what was happening in society, politics and economics at the time that the novel was written. This will give us more information about the ‘message’ or intended meaning of the novel. Animal Farm was written during the time of the Russian Revolution. The Russian Revolution was the series of events that led from the overthrow of a monarchy to the beginnings of communism. Animal Farm depicts these events through anthropomorphism.
