Intro Adaptations are traits that helps meet an animals’ needs. They are used to help an animal in its habitat by catching food or hiding from enemies.
Birds An owls’ eyes help the bird hunt for food at night. Their eyes absorb light, so they can see in the dark.
Ostriches can run fast because of their long legs. They can outrun predators who might want to eat it. These are some examples of bird adaptations. Their adaptations help meet their needs.
Mammals Some animals, like the artic fox have an adaptation that when the season changes their fur does too. In winter its fur turns white so the fox blends in with the snow, so it can catch prey easier.
The hedgehog rolls into a ball when it feels threatened, the spikes poke the predator so it can’t bite the hedgehog. The spikes have been past down from each generation, so more hedgehogs survived.
Reptiles Scales are an important part of a snake, because they don’t have legs. They have smooth scales to move instead. If snakes can’t hunt so they soon become extinct.
Turtles shells help them by protecting the animal from enemies. A turtle will tuck its legs and head into its shell for protection.
Animals adaptations help them meet their needs, catch food, protect themselves and most of all help them survive.
