Anglophone South School District (ASD-S) Multi-year Infrastructure Planning - Central Saint John Phase 1: Completed School Sustainability Study (409) completed on Saint John Baptist/King Edward School and Prince Charles School. Study approved by the District Education Council (DEC) and the Minister. Recommendation from the DEC to close both schools and replace with new 450 capacity K-8 School. Phase 2: Completed School Sustainability Study (409) completed on Centennial School and Hazen-White/St. Francis School. Study approved by the DEC and the Minister. Recommendation from DEC to close both schools and replace with a new 450 K-5 capacity School.

Gerald Teed School – possible options could be school closure and replace with a new K-5 or an expansion onto M. Gerald Teed. Full facility analysis of Princess Elizabeth School.

Anglophone South School District (ASD-S) Multi-year Infrastructure Planning - Central Saint John Phase 3 – Next Steps: Grade reconfiguration for Hazen-White/St. Francis School to K-5 Hazen-White/St. Francis is a K-8 school. Sept. 2018 enrolment of 224 students. Small middle school population, grades 6 -8, of 55 students for 2018/19. Millidgeville North School has the capacity to accept the middle school students. Millidgeville North School zone would be expanded to include Hazen-White/St. Francis School zone for middle school students. This change could begin as soon as Sept. 2019.

Anglophone South School District (ASD-S) Multi-year Infrastructure Planning - Central Saint John Phase 3 – Next Steps: Points to Consider: Challenging to provide a full middle school experience with only 40 to 70 students. Easier for students to transition to a large high school from a larger middle school setting. French Immersion at Millidgeville North for grades 6 -8. Bussing is already in place and HW/SF borders onto MNS. Students in Sistema at MNS are already familiar with the school.

Anglophone South School District (ASD-S) Multi-year Infrastructure Planning - Central Saint John Phase 3 – Next Steps: Features of Millidgeville North School: Many different sports at the school – basketball, volleyball, cross country, cheerleading, etc. Fully licensed cafeteria. Breakfast program. EAL support. Resource and Guidance support. Student Leadership Program. Other school activities such as Terry Fox Run, Jump Rope for Heart, Yearbook, Dances, Grade 8 trips, etc.

Policy 409 – School Sustainability Section 6. 7. 1 The duty to consult is less for grade reconfigurations than for school sustainability studies and so, the timeframe for consultation can be much shorter, based on the DEC’s discretion. However, the DEC must still demonstrate that the process was consistent with the principles of procedural fairness when they inform the Minister of the proposed grade reconfiguration.

6. 7. 2 The DEC will advise the Minister in writing when the school district intends to reconfigure grades and will then consult parents on the proposal. 6. 7. 3 After consultation, the DEC will inform the Minister of the school district’s final decision on the grade reconfiguration. 6. 7. 4 Once the Minister has been officially informed of a reconfiguration, the superintendent shall inform parents of the relocation of students. Sufficient notice must be provided to permit relocated students and their families to participate fully in the programs and activities offered in the new school.
