Introduction Angela Davis was a women of great intentions and showed those intentions to many people around the world and people of all races, color, cultures and backgrounds. Angela was a part of many different organizations such as; Black Panther Party, Communist Party of United States and other originations around the world. Davis pushed people to get the best of there education. Many people have written books on Davis’ life, one that is recognized around the world is “Dreaming in French” written by Alice Kaplan. Angela did many things in her lifetime and still doing more to this day. She created her own organizations to help people in prisons get better facilities and better care.
History Angela Davis was an American Black activist, Philosopher, Feminist scholar and an Author. Davis believed in many things and one being education, she believed that anyone with the drive and mindset to go to school and want to succeed should have the “right” to do so. A little more into Davis’ history, around the 1960’s Angela was ta teacher at the University of Los Angela’s and thought there for some years, In October of 1960 Davis got arrested for murder while teaching at UCLA. Angela herself graduated from UCLA, as a top student of her class. She was going down for Murder, Many-many people around the world did not agree that Angela had done the crime and were trying to do whatever it took to get her back on the streets and protesting for right causes. After serving 3 years in Prison, Angela came home and started her own organization called “Critical Resistance” to help abolish the prisons industrial complex.
Purpose Angela Davis valued education and equal rights. All her experiences truly made her the person she is today. Growing up, as a teenager she tried to put together a interracial study groups, but police broke them up. Her purpose in life was to let everybody know that education was important. She wanted to get it across to everybody's path in life. She had an education, and she knew how much she had grown because of it. Things are so different now especially with the economy we have, and Davis can only make a good change in the way people think. Equality was a big part in her life also. She went through so much growing up and she was a part of parties that focused on equality. Her purpose for this was letting everybody know that we are all equal.
Argument Angela Davis taught at the University of California, Los Angeles. She got fired for being associated with communism. She then decided to fight the school board in court and ended up winning the case. They gave her, her job back but she still ended up leaving once her contract with them was over. We believe Angela did the right thing in this situation. She fought for what she believed in and she ended up winning. And that should be a lesson to all of us, Fight for what you believe in no matter what the cost. Throughout her experience in jail, Angela saw how the prisoners were treated, and she also saw how many African American and Latino races were with her belief on how important education is she set out to bring another point that she believed in. She set out to speak about the way she felt about American prison Systems.
Relations Gabby: Angela Davis faced a lot of racism and discrimination throughout her life, there are many ways you can make a person feel discriminated, not just by their color or race. I feel that underestimate my potential just because I look younger and I am bit shorter than average. Many people don’t’ see that as a way of discrimination, but once someone puts you thought it you would know that it is. A lot forms of discrimination still occurs in the world and it’s really sad that us people have to do that to each other we should realize that we are all created equal and ware all have the strength to reach our pull potentials. Kwami: Interesting information I found on Angela was the fact, she went to prison, cam back and wanted to make a change in the prison systems. We all know that prison is not a place anyone wants to be, and for the people that are in there; aren’t happy at all. For someone to want to help them with all their heard and do whatever it takes to help them and get things better like Angela did, is Amazing.
Conclusion Angela Davis made me realize that anything can be possible, with all the amazing literally amazing things that she has done and all the sacrifices she made for the world. From working at UCLA as a teacher, going across sea’s and being the best African American student in her abroad classes, Angela is an amazing women that was apart of many organizations that were very powerful and did something remarkable with her life. Alive today Angela is till helping people and communities all offer the world, with all the knowledge she gained from schools. We should all think Angela for what she did in the world, because in one way or another she helped all of us out.
