Everything is 8’ diameter curves except the curves on either end of the lower yard. This way, the two crossovers can handle the big locos to bypass the lower station.

Bridge section that is at all one rail height, flat-bottomed design for train clearance over the twin mainline and switching yard Got quotes from Eagle. Wings Ironworks, after seeing their work at the ECLSTS. Probably overdesigned for indoors, but they look great.

Initial attempt to lay out the track plan and see if it all fits – I used Any. Rail track planning software, which I liked. If you’ve already viewed my first layout presentation, you’ll notice I sheet-rocked the walls before building the new layout.

The transition over the yard and into the lower station is plywood now; the original Through-girder bridge (8’ diameter track) was not wide enough for my Mallet and Heavyweight passengers cars, and had to be widened from 7” to 9” ID.

Here’s the original through-girder bridge in temporary position; it was fine for diesels and freight cars, but not the longer stuff – I have it back now, and will be reinstalling it by the end of June 2012… word to the wise if using 8’ curves – you need 9” clearance!
