Ms. Scales, Deborah. scales@pgcps. org Art Teacher Pre K – 8 th Elementary: Anchor Standard 2: Organize and develop artistic ideas and work. Soon we will begin to think in the abstract by drawing objects inside of our rectangular prism. Pretty tricky! Pre-K & K: Our youngest art scholars are exploring paper folding techniques to create lines and shapes. We will construct mobiles from our creations and observe how art can move in space. Grades 4 -5: Math and Art meet again! Our intermediate art scholars are constructing geometric forms to assemble a kinesthetic mobile. We have begun with a rectangular prism decorated with interlocking, colorful designs. Our art scholars are drafting measured cube templates. We will decorate our cubes with a tessellation design. Grade 1: AJA first graders are enjoying work station activities to learn about spatial relationships. We are learning how to create the illusion of space with one-point perspective and the use of diminishing and overlapping shapes to create a sense of distance. Grade 2: Now that 2 nd graders have learned the art-math skills of symmetry in the making of tribal masks, they have come full circle to rotational symmetry. We are learning how shapes have a rotational symmetry order. Art scholars are designing rotational symmetry with triangles. When we put them all together they will look like a quilt design. Grade 3: Third grade art scholars are exploring observational drawing. We have integrated geometry into our project, learning how to draw a rectangular prism with parallel lines. Middle School: Anchor Standard 6: Convey meaning through the presentation of artistic work. Grade 6: Art Medieval Style is our theme for semester two middle school students. We are designing creative lettering representing our names. We substitute gold foil for gold leaf to Illuminate our letters. After that, we will illustrate illuminated manuscript that our students author. Grades 7 -8: The Medieval Scriptorium is where books were hand scripted and hand made by artists and writers. It all took place in the Monastery. Our seventh and eighth grade scholars are working in groups sharing the jobs of illuminator, scribe, annotator, and illustrator. We are creating illuminated manuscript inspired by the poem, The Road Not Taken, by Robert Frost.
