The main architectural goal of the Greeks was the construction of temples. Throughout the life of the historical temples of ancient Greece it retained the same basic type , and later it was assimilated by the Romans. The temples were friendly habitations of humanlike gods like the homes of ordinary people , but more elegant and rich.
Initially, temples were built of wood, but then they were made of stone. Temples stays on the foundation with stairs and have a large number of columns.
Columns. Styles. Columns have played an important role in Greek architecture. They defined the style of the building. There are three main areas of columns : • Doric order • Ionic order • Corinthian • order
Doric order. • Doriс column is stocky, it hasn't base, foundation. It narrows sharply upward. • Approximately 1/3 of the height of the column is swelling (entasis). • The upper part of the column has a rectangular plate - abacus. • Freese has vertical slats -triglify and square plates, decorated with reliefs.
Ionic order. • Thin high columns , they need in the base , because they can not stand on the steps. • Capitals of the columns - two spiral curl - volute. • It consists of three horizontal stripes. • Frieze decorated with relief.
Corinthian order. • It features a special pomp and beauty. • It has a base. • Four volute inclined stand.
