Anatomy & Physiology Week 3 July- August 2020.
Anatomy Physiology The study of the body and its parts The study of how the body and parts function & work together
The Upper Leg
The upper leg portion can be divided into the Quadriceps & Hamstring muscles There are 4 Quad muscles. There are 3 Hamstring muscles.
Quad Muscles: 1. Rectus Femoris 2. Vastus Lateralis 3. Vastus Intermedialis 4. Vastus Medialis Quad Muscles Role: Extend the knee joint
Hamstring Muscles: 1. Bicep Femoris 2. Semitendinosis 3. Semimembranosis Hamstring Muscles Role: Extend the hip joint & Flex the knee joint
“Knee” The “knee” is made up of several bones. These bones include the humerus which connects to the tibia and the patella (knee cap) sits on top of the two. Within this structure there are 4 ligaments.
Anterior Cruciate ligament (ACL) Medial Cruciate Ligament (MCL) Lateral Cruciate Ligament (LCL) Posterior Cruciate ligament (PCL)
Calf Muscles Superficial muscle: Gastrocnemius Deep muscle: Soleus
Ankle The ankle is made up of 2 bones: the tibia and the fibula. The tibia is the bone on the medial side of your calf. The fibula is on the lateral.
The foot can be broken down into 3 sections. The hind foot (heel portion), mid foot and forefoot (toes portion). The Foot
