Analyzing Different Mediums
What are different mediums? • Major Learning Target: – I can analyze various accounts of a subject told in different mediums. In your journal, answer the following: What are mediums? What is a documentary? What is a memoir? What is a film?
What is a Documentary? • What is the purpose? • Where does the information come from? • How is the message conveyed? – The creative interpretation of reality – The gray area between art and journalism – The presentation of socially useful information to the public – To inform or educate – First hand accounts, historical and primary documents, film and photographs from the time period – Usually conveyed through video and interviews
Film or Movie • What is the purpose? • Where does the information come from? • How is the message conveyed? – Usually to entertain – A film is a story brought to life through moving images and sound. – Could be based on something that happened, or entirely made up by the film maker/director/writer
What is a memoir? • What is the purpose? • Where does the information come from? • How is the message conveyed? – To entertain, inform or convey a message – Non-fiction – based on a portion of a person’s life – Through events, details and descriptions
Compare and contrast • Create a venn diagram with a partner that demonstrates the similarities and differences between: – A documentary – A film/movie – A memoir
