Analysis of Pavement Condition along Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard
“Analysis of Pavement Condition along Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard by Pavement Distress Approach” Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Major in Transportation Engineering Facinabao, John Safiro F. Legaspi, Vernaliza A. Biscocho, Joan B
• The two most considered measure of pavement condition are the pavement distresses and pavement roughness • A pavement distress is defined as any indication of poor or unfavorable pavement performance or signs of impending failures • Pavement roughness is generally defined as an expression of irregularities in the pavement surface that adversely affect the ride quality of a vehicle
• Measure of distresses can either subjective or objective • A simple subjective measure may be a rating of high, medium, or low based on a brief visual inspection • Objective measurements, which are generally more expensive to obtain, use different types of automated distress detection equipment
Objectives of the Study 1. T o quantify the condition of pavement with regards to its distresses by determining the weight factors of different distresses for calculating the pavement surface ratings 2. To evaluate the condition of pavement along Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard 3. To evaluate the level of service of Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard 4. To know whethere is a significant relationship between the levels of service of road section with its pavement condition
Significance of the Study • The Department of Public Works and Highways can be benefited in this study • With the pavement condition ratings, the extent of repair and cost can be estimated. The same benefit it has for other private road and highway developers • For transportation engineering students and future researchers, they are also benefited in this study in such a way that they can use this study as a reference and related study for writing a thesis
Conceptual framework Input 1. Related literature and studies 2. Pavement distresses data 3. Characteristics of link -length, width, type of road section Process 1. Survey on the level of service of road section 2. Analysis of pavement distresses 3. Quantify pavement condition by pavement distresses. 4. Level of service feedback Output 1. Evaluation of the condition of pavement along R. Magsaysay Boulevard 2. Establish a relationship between pavement condition and level of service of road section.
Methodology • Survey along Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard is the main part of data gathering procedure • In this survey, raters walk along the pavement section to inspect and record all the distresses present in that section • Recording of data with regards to the severity and extent of distresses is done in accordance with the standard ratings of distress identification manual
• Rating will be done every after 150 meters from the starting point • The pavement distress data will be recorded in forms and transferred to a centralized file
• In computing the pavement surface ratings (SR), the distress weight, severity and extent level is needed • The individual weighted distress is sum up to acquire the total weighted distress • Convert the total weighted distress to pavement surface rating
Calculating Pavement Surface Rating Flow Chart 1. Conversion of the amount of distress to a percentage 2. Calculation of the individual weighted distress 4. Convert the total weighted distress to surface rating 3. Calculation of the total weighted distress
