• • • Figure picking Tremolos ‘hammer on's’ ‘pull offs’ Strumming (patterns) This piece was my most confident piece because I had rehearsed it the most and knew how to play it before starting this unit so I only had to learn how to develop it into a band piece rather than an individual This part was under rehearsed and I did loose concentration briefly. The chords were correct, however I tried to play them different to deliver other effects I am not very confident when it comes to guitar and I do suffer from nerves and server anxiety. I managed to over come this to enable me to preform Part of my organisation was the intro/entrance. This was to create the desired atmosphere for the The distortion level audience was determined through the dynamic check at he start of the performance and during rehearsals. And was believed the corrected level to make my guitar The ‘phaser’ effect a the start of the song was chosen part the most as it created the atmosphere needed for the audience. dominant instrument within the piece. The effects on the guitar were turned off in the chorus however the guitar dynamics were too high and therefore the guitar was too strong I struggled with timing due to the beat set by the drum and the lyrics were at a different tempo than planned As the piece digressed my confidence grew as I became more comfortable with the piece and performing This was because of my confidence issue and I started to get distracted during the solo, as well as this my nerves started to affect my ability and my mind froze this is the reason for some dodgy notes during the solo. This was because at the start I delivered the timings. When playing with the other guitar boosted my confidence hence why my timing was better

By me making a mistake this made me less confident which in turn caused more mistakes The solo was last minute and was mostly improvised, like planned. I practice and learnt the notes which worked and then improvised with the order. I should of developed a solo earlier as I ended up creating my solo within the weak of performance. This piece was meant to be by my timing however due to nerves the other performer took the lead. I was not aware that I was covered by the lid, however by watching the recording the guitar and myself is still visible. I fount timing difficult because the absence of drums and because the chord changes, as my improvisatio n was based on the chords which were being played The chords were the correct chords, however I messed the order of them due to nerves. As well as this I did not have confidence with the chords as I do not have much experience with ‘bar chords’ This piece was a last minute choice. I decided within the final few weeks to perform this as I was conscious of timing and did not think I had enough for the requirements I sat down as the improvisation, especially with an acoustic, I find easier to do when seated. In addition the majority of acoustic guitarist in bands sit during acoustic songs This because I did not have another guitarist to accompany me as I use this for timing as well as the drums The reason I didn’t keep going and took a break is because I miss counted the chords I had played and so was trying to get back into time and with the right chords

This piece was one of the first pieces we decided to perform and rehearsed

This piece was one of the first pieces we decided to perform and rehearsed and therefore did rehearse more. The reason why I was least confident with the solo part of the song was because I never managed to get the timing or the duration right and this caused my confidence to suffer I was able to use different effects and techniques to create different feelings and atmosphere from the audience as well as manipulating the pieces into different desired genres. For example ‘Numb’ is normally a Nu-Metal song whereas we made it more pop, pop rock or even indie The acoustic peeves were my weakest as had the least rehearsal on. In addition I am least confident on acoustic because I can not use the same effects as I would on the electric. This was done through dynamic checks and finding the appropriate mix and sound level fro each instrument. Through the use of effects I was able to change the power of the guitar to enable it to be overpowering in appropriate parts, for example in the chorus of Seven Nation Army By using all my own equipment I was able to trust that everything was safe and reliable. I provided; Two electric guitars (Les Paul and Ibanez), One acoustic (Freshman), 50 watts amplifier with distortion pedal (Marshall), 20 ft. jack lead I was one of the main people to create the set list and order the songs. In addition I turned up first, in order to set up the stage, equipment, seating arrangements and lights I was the main person to organise the rehearsals. During the rehearsal processes I discussed with other band members what pieces need work and when available times were, then I made a plan and informed all over members.

This was down to my confidence and my concentration. Even though my confidence has grown I still found performing difficult. The reason I did not look at the audience often was because I was concentrating on the notes I was playing. As a guitarist I had to communicate with the bad a lot, especially with the it is difficult drummer and the bassist. This was to keep timing and to que to trust the others on the structure. rest of the band as they are all behind you. I did trust the band members however I communicat ed more for reassurance The reason I stood side on was just because it is comfortable for me to play in this position and because of the room available. In the recording it appears that the stage had a lot of room however due to the cables and amps this was not reality During the acoustic pieces I sat down in attempt to create a more chilled and comfortable (informal) atmosphere for the audience as generally acoustic songs do this. As communication with the audience was difficult for me, and because while playing guitar interaction is an issue I announced some to the songs to keep some communication with the audience All amps and equipment were placed away from the edge of the stage to minimise the risk of injury and to maximise the available space All wires were taped town to either amps or the floor with visible tape to ensure awareness and minimise an hazards This was to prevent injury as breaks were needed to allow hydration and rest.
