Analyse A Star In Detail The Script By
Analyse A Star In Detail. . The Script By Emily Batts
About Them. . • The script are originally from Dublin, Ireland. It consists of three members, Danny O’Donoghue, Mark Sheehan and Glen Power. Their music consists of pop rock and soul. • Two of the band mates previously had their own band called ‘mytown’ in 1996. They were quickly recognised and moved to Canada to do work and collaborated with many known artists. After a few years in the US, they moved back to Ireland this is where they met their 3 rd band mate, Glen Power. This is when in 2005 they signed to Phonogenic. • Their first album was released in August 2008 ‘The Script’, and included songs such as ‘We Cry’ and ‘The Man That Can’t Be Moved’. This album got into the top 10 and was at number one for 11 weeks. On this first album they recorded the track ‘Live Like We’re Dying’ as a bonus track, which was then later recorded by the artist ‘Kris Allen’ • They then released their second album in 2010 which was called ‘Science and Faith’
Early Star Image. . • Looking at the earlier videos from ‘The Script’ all the videos are similar. Although there is a story behind the songs (Narrative) such as ‘The Man Who Can’t Be Moved’ the main artist is doing things in the lyrics, such as waiting at the corner of the street. But the music video also goes back to the whole band performing on a stage or a room. This is a recurring throughout their singles from their first album. • ‘We Cry’ which was their first released song is the artist walking down the street, looking at people and the camera showing people who relate to the song, such as people crying or being upset. But it goes to them all performing in a room.
Star Image Development. . • In most of their videos the main singer within the band is playing a character. The character usually involves him having broken up with a women or in the middle of a break-up. • When the whole band come together as a whole, they are performing as a band, on a stage or in a room with microphones, and instruments that they need.
Band Motif. . • With all of their albums and singles, posters and promotions the same writing style is used. This becomes their brand, and they are known for doing this and through this you recognise their products. This has been the same font used from when they first cam about, till now. • There is also the use of a hand within their images, some of the pictures across show this. It is even used on badges. This is a poster from the official site. It has the same font used throughout.
How Are They Sold. . • Looking at pictures of ‘The Script’ there appears to be a pattern in what they all wear. The lead singer is in most cases wearing a leather jacket, with a t-shirt underneath. This is the same for their music videos. The colouring in what they wear does not vary much, they wear quite dark, dull colours. • Within each of their shots they are always standing in a similar way too, there is always the main singer positioned in the front, with the two other band mates slightly behind him, either side of him. Creating a triangular shape in a way. It doesn’t always make this shape, but the other band mates are always positioned further behind the lead singer.
How Do The Camera and Editing Reinforce The Imagine? • Within each of their shots they are always standing in a similar way, there is always the main singer positioned in the front, with the two other band mates slightly behind him, either side of him. Creating a triangular shape in a way. It doesn’t always make this shape, but the other band mates are always positioned further behind the lead singer.
How Do The Camera and Editing Reinforce The Imagine? • These pictures reflect the camera work and the positioning of the band within promotional shots.
Wider Cultural Significance. . • The band were and are popular from when they first released their song because they are something different, they are not like the normal, usual boy band. They vary in the way they are, the music they produce and how the group present themselves. • They become popular through using the same things too, within the videos they use a similar style, their own personal style and appearance and the types of songs they do. By staying the same and doing recognisable things people recognise them and like them.
Conclusion. . • The script haven’t been around for that long, and have only produced 2 albums, so are still really starting out. But in the time that they have been around they have gained popularity, from my research I have gathered that the reasons for this is because they have developed a ‘brand’. Their appearances have changed little, the videos are all similar with the colourings and the context of each of them, the ‘motif’ with the writing on all of their products.
