Conclusions § An overwhelming majority of parent respondents preferred traditional grading system. § Students did not have the same teacher year to year § Standards based reporting has helped students understand their strengths and weaknesses related to proficiency, even though they prefer the traditional grading system. § Teacher’s practices have changed due to standards based reporting, and their understanding of student’s strengths, weaknesses, and proficiency levels have increased. § Teachers who taught 1 -15 years were more positive, teachers who taught 16 or more years were less positive
Recommendations § Successfully implementing standards based reporting demands a close working relationship among teachers, parents, and school and district leaders (Guskey 2001 p. 27) § Report Card Committee § Lines of communication and availability of resources § Professional development (all stakeholders) § Rubrics and mentor texts to provide consistency Guskey (2001) and Jung and Guskey (2010) referred to three criteria that should be addressed for the successful implementation of standards based reporting: Product criteria, process criteria, progress criteria.
Implications for Future Research § Parent study § Comparative analysis of standards based reporting and student Mstep performance § Time Study § Larger scaled study to generalize the effects of standards based reporting § Student growth § Parent perceptions § Teacher effectiveness
