Common Core Standard 6. RL. 3 Describe how a particular story’s or drama’s plot unfolds in a series of episodes as well as how the characters respond or change as the plot moves towards a resolution. We will accomplish this standard by: 1. ) Laying out the plot in a series of captured photos from the movie. 2. ) Analyzing along the way both how Cinderella and her step-family changes.
ONCE UPON A TIME…… There was a young girl named Cinderella who lived with her father after her mother died.
Reread the Common Core standard. In what way could the arrows relate Cinderella’s story to the standard? The RED arrows represent the evil step mother and step sisters’ emotional rollercoaster. The BLUE arrows represent Cinderella’s emotional rollercoaster.
Her father remarries, and Cinderella gains a cruel step-mother and two step-sisters. You’re mine now, Cinderella!
The step family seems to gain power over Cinderella and her father.
Cinderella’s father dies…. .
She becomes a servant in her own castle. La La La
In another kingdom, the king decides his son, the Prince, needs to find a bride.
The King decides to hold a ball for the Prince to choose his bride.
What does the King and the ball have to do with Cinderella?
Cinderella panics because she does not have a nice dress for the ball. Oh no!
Her friendly animals help make her a dress. Pull, boys! Cindy will love it!
What do the mice and friendly animals have to do with Cinderella’s character?
The evil sisters see the dress, and tear You’re not it apart! Your dress is going to the so ugly! ball anyways!
All of a sudden, the Fairy Godmother appears. There, . there
The Fairy Godmother granted Cinderella a carriage, dress, glass shoes and the chance to meet the Prince at the ball.
BUT, Cinderella must be home by midnight! Tick Tock
Cinderella goes to the ball, and no one recognizes her. She even dances with the Prince. Love at first sight…
Midnight strikes, and Cinderella runs home, losing her shoe on the stairs.
Prince Charming finds the slipper, and searches for the owner throughout the whole kingdom.
The Prince arrives at Cinderella’s castle, and her step mother locks her in a room! Let me out!
The step sisters try and try to make the glass slipper fit their feet. They don’t succeed. Why won’t it fit? It fits perfectly! See!?
Gus tries to get the key to unlock the door, but Lucifer traps him under his paw. NEVER FEAR THOUGH! Bruno (who we see as a pup in the first photo of Cinderella and her father) the dog scares Lucifer away! Ahhh!
Cinderella escapes the locked room, and gets to try on the glass slipper. Wait! Can I try it on?
Before she tries on the glass slipper, her step-mother and step-sisters try to keep her from trying it on. The prince insists every girl in the kingdom must try it on! It won’t fit her anyways!
Suddenly, the step-mother trips the man carrying the shoe, and the shoe shatters. Shatter!
What will happen next? We know that: -shoe shattering is climax -that the story ends happily, of course What do you think will happen? Is the resolution coming soon? If the resolution is coming soon, is it a resolution that will save the day, or one that will bring more bad news for Cinderella? Let’s find out!
Prince is sad, but Cinderella has the other shoe! She tries it on and it fits perfectly.
Cinderella and the Prince married. AND THEY LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER.
Did you notice the red and blue arrows? Reread the Common Core standard. In what way could the arrows relate Cinderella’s story to the standard? The blue arrows represent Cinderella’s emotional rollercoaster. She starts out a happy young girl and throughout her adventure, life gives her reasons to cry, laugh, smile and be angry. Cinderella’s rollercoaster of emotions explains the drama of this story. Cinderella must first deal with the death of her parents which results in her emotions to decrease, or make her sad. Cinderella also must adapt to her new family of a step-mother and two stepsisters. Right away, her step-mother makes her scrub the house and constantly clean, making Cinderella gloomier. Although, throughout the story Cinderella receives a beautiful dress, shoes, and a pumpkin carriage for the ball, where she dances with the Prince. As represented in the graph, Cinderella’s emotions go up and down. The step-sisters also experience an emotional journey through the red arrows. They start out with great pride and it eventually gets tore down by reality.
The graph illustrates how Cinderella started as a servant and became a queen, and also how her step-family started very prideful and were eventually put to shame. (Hint hint: binary opposites)
