• OOAI is one office within the Howard County Department of Community Resources and Services (DCRS) • Plans, advocates, develops, and coordinates programs & services for seniors, persons with disabilities, family members or care partners; collaborates with partners in the community
ADRC • Clues – • Name of the division that serves people of all incomes and ages 18 & older • Provides information on the full range of short & long term support options • A single point of entry for access to public long term support programs and benefits

National Family Caregiver Support Program • Family Caregiver Support assists family caregivers through five primary types of services: § Education & Outreach caregiver training – quarterly, annually, Memory Café § Information about services & help accessing services § Individual counseling & support groups § Respite care & Supplemental services such as purchase of personal supplies § Next program SHIP – guesses?
State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) • SHIP is a free, confidential & unbiased counseling service for Medicare beneficiaries of all ages to understand their health insurance benefits, bills & rights • Provides trained/certified staff & volunteer counselors; counselors offer in-person &, telephone assistance plus public presentations • Next up – SMP – who can offer a guess?
Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) • SMP –empowers & assists Medicare beneficiaries to prevent, detect and report health care fraud, errors and abuse through outreach, counseling and education • Medicare fraud - $75 billion a year • Promotes protecting yourself/loved ones § § § Check Medicare Summary Notices for accuracy Know that Medicare does not call people Be wary of solicitations – especially door-to-door
HCBS • Clue- the division that provides long- term services & supports to assist with daily activities that help older adults & people with disabilities to remain in their homes

AIP • Aging in Place (aka Aging in the Community) § Occupational Therapy evaluation for home safety & adaptation devices § Retrofit consultation to provide advice on changes to make the home accessible (e. g. , grab bars, door widening, ramp) § Who knows the term ALF?
ALF Oversight • Assisted Living Facility Oversight § The Housing Unit - in conjunction with the Office of Health Care Quality, is responsible for monitoring small assisted living facilities in Howard County for compliance with state regulations § These facilities range from 1 to 16 beds and generally provide a more “home-like” atmosphere § And next – predict the terms from LC

Senior Care • Senior Care provides limited services for older adults at risk for institutionalization: § Comprehensive needs assessment § Case Management § In-home Aide services – personal care and chore services § Support services e. g. , incontinence supplies, emergency response systems
Vulnerable Adult Advocacy Fight Elder Abuse • Ombudsman – Help to resolve complaints made by or for residents of long term care facilities; the ombudsman educates consumers & long term care providers about resident's rights & good care practices • Guardianship – OOAI can be appointed to serve as the public guardian for persons ages 65 & older declared by the Courts to lack the capacity to make their own decisions; OOAI is appointed as last resort, when there is no one else willing or able to serve as the guardian
