Smart Metering Rollout The Government announced the intention to roll-out Smart Metering to the market by 2020. In the gas market, this will require replacing around 20 million meters in the next ten years. Sites above 732, 000 k. Wh (termed “AMR sites”) excluded from “Smart Solution” CCP scope. Also sites below that limit with “AMR” equipment installed prior to 6 April 2014. ICo. SS believe that around 10% of I&C sites have some form of remote metering device

DECC - Functionality for Gas I&C Customers Current Business Smart Meter Population Remote provision of accurate reads for defined time periods Current population provide data at multiple levels of resolution, up to every six seconds if required. Two Way communications to the meter system Current population mainly utilises GSM/GPRS which Support Two Way communications and can be updated remotely Support for a range of time of use tariffs AMR solution provides data at multiple levels of resolution. Implications for Nexus Business Smart/AMR indistinguishable for Nexus, but depending on CCP scope may impact population. So AMR population will vary, but will be larger than the current mandatory AMR population (~50, 000 meter points) and will include SSP sites. Identification of sites will be critical. In light of this population, that will cut across I&C sector, capacity and system changes also needs to be gauged for: Individual reconciliation (SSP sites) DME (many sites will want daily balancing)
