Americas S 0 Report C M Ginsburg FNAL
Americas S 0 Report C. M. Ginsburg (FNAL) for the FNAL/ANL, JLab, and Cornell cavity teams S 0 Meeting 25. October 2011
Cornell Updates VT of ILC single cell w/ T-map will be next week. Furuta 3 -cell re-entrant is under prep. for VT, tuning is on going. New VT insert w/ T-map for multi-cell is under assembly, commissioning will start next month. New T-M Vacuum furnace has been delivered, installation is ongoing. New Ultrasonic cleaner has been delivered, will be installed inside clean room. 25 -Oct-11 36 th ILC cavity group meeting F. Furuta
Cornell Updates T-map for ILC single 36 boards x 17 sensors 25 -Oct-11 36 th ILC cavity group meeting F. Furuta
Cornell Updates New T-M Vacuum furnace at Newman lab. Design Max Temp. 1450 C Vac. 1. 0 e-8 Torr 25 -Oct-11 36 th ILC cavity group meeting F. Furuta
Cornell Updates New Ultrasonic cleaner at Newman lab. 20” x 18” x 60” available low-freq. transducer x 3 at side, high-freq. transducer x 1 at bottom. 25 -Oct-11 36 th ILC cavity group meeting F. Furuta
JLab status Eremeev • TB 9 RI 023: tested after the second light EP. On the first power rise the cavity reached 32 MV/m, at which point FE turn-on happened. After the FE event the cavity is limited by field emission induced quench at the iris between cell #8 and #9 at 17 MV/m. The cavity is being tested with thermometry and radiation diodes. • MHI 8: released from quarantine by the radiation control group. 25 October 2011

Cryomodule Cavities FNAL-CM 2 23. Sep. 2011 • All cavities which were vertically and horizontally qualified for CM 2 received process/test at JLab and horizontal test at FNAL v Transport cold mass to FNAL/ICB Thursday 27. Oct. for final assembly v Completion and transport to NML end of CY 11 CMGinsburg (FNAL) LCWS 11 27. Sep. 2011 10
• S 0 statistics [established vendors] Cavities in progress – AES cavities with light BCP@AES – pitted surfaces • TB 9 AES 011@JLab – passes ILC gradient and Q 0, but cannot be used because of severe FE and activation – returned to FNAL for FE mitigation and retest • TB 9 AES 012@FNAL/ANL [tumbling] – 1 st test: 26 MV/m (FE, cable) v 2 nd test (after HPR and re-ass’y): 37 MV/m (quench, mode mixing) » FE sudden turn-on processed away without bad effect • TB 9 AES 013@FNAL/ANL [std EP] – 17 MV/m (quench, no FE) • Material studies underway – RI cavities with bulk EP at RI [non-standard process] • TB 9 RI 023@JLab – 1 st pass: 23 MV/m (power/FE) v 2 nd pass: 17 MV/m (quench/FE) after FE turn-on (initially reached 32 MV/m) v TB 9 RI 025@FNAL/ANL [moderate EP]: 34 MV/m (quench/mode mixing) • Next cavities – AES: 10 ARRA 9 -cells due at FNAL/ANL later this year • Plan to use half of these 10 to establish tumbling as a baseline process • 10 more will arrive next year sometime 25.
