AMERICA’S ARMY: THE STRENGTH OF THE NATION FA 48 Accession Program Army G-3/5/7 Accession earlier without compromising eligibility/quality requirements 5 6 7 8 9 10 MAJ pin on VTIP Start Training 12 14 16 18 20 LTC pin on FAO UTILIZATION Training/THS - Typical training start time New Accession Program Characteristics • 100% of officers are volunteers (significant change) • Accessed between 5 -7 years of commissioned service • Trained as a Captain vice Major • Receive approximately 80 officers per year-group (100% of requirement) • Proponent gets unparalleled input into selection of officers • Officers now start training within 12 months of accession - MAJ or LTC pin on point - VTIP opportunities New Accession Program Benefits • Army gets more experienced Majors – 2+ utilization tours as a Major • Army utilization and fill rates increase • Army will be able to better focus resources to meet high demand AOC requirements • Ultimate result is better support to Army, Joint Force and other supported organizations UNCLASSIFIED/FOUO

UNCLASS/FOUO FAO Training AMERICA’S ARMY: THE STRENGTH OF THE NATION Army G-3/5/7 Foreign Area Officers In-Region Training (IRT) Advanced Civil Schooling (ACS) • Career field orientation • 1 week at DLI • Curriculum focused on key FAO missions in the Army and JIIM • OSD funding • Between 26 and 63 weeks • Standard = 2/2/2 • Language dependent on AOC • Immerse officer • 12 months • Country Team Internships • Host-nation PME • Regional travel • Improve language to 3/3 • Regionally focused Master’s Degree • 12 -18 months • Large diversity of schools = diversity of thought and networking UNCLASS/FOUO ACS SSF Intermediate Level Education (ILE) • Maintain Army connection • Warrior ethos • Army operations • Planning skills Sustainment Language Training ILE Language Joint FAO Course, Phase I IRT Joint FAO Course Key Enablers in Prevent, Shape, Win Sustainment • Sustain perishable language skills • Joint FAO Course, Phase II • Ensure breadth and depth of assignments
