Getting Started… What do you think Americans value, and why do you think so? Based on what you know, make a list with your partner of the “top 10” American values.
Anamericanstudies. com Here’s a picture that shows a few key American values. Today we’ll talk less about concrete values like family and education, and more about ideas such as “equality” or “time. ”
Values… In every country, there are hundreds of values that influence the way that we work, play, and relate to one another. A country’s advertisements are a good place to discover the people’s values. Advertisers try to appeal to the things people think are most important in order to attract people to their product.
Values… Today, we’ll look at several American advertisements and try to identify what American values are represented. As you watch, try to identify the value and consider how it is similar to or different from Chinese values. After every few advertisements, we’ll take a break to discuss and ask questions.
Let’s talk about it… What questions do you have about the values we just talked about? For example: But what about…? How does this value influence xxx part of daily life? Or anything else you want to know!
Finally… Let’s talk about… Which of the values we talked about are similar to Chinese values? In what way? How are these values different from Chinese values? If you had to prepare a friend to visit America, what 5 pieces of advice would you give him/her regarding remembering American values?
