THE WAR EXPANDS v As the Patriots continue to fight and win key victories; the French and eventually the Spanish enter the war to help the Americans. v With the Americans having new allies in the war effort, the British will be forced to fight a war on many different fronts, thereby spreading out their resources. v The Continentals suffered great hardship during their winter stay at Valley Forge, but would emerge rejuvenated and skillfully trained. v The Americans wanted to expand the war by fighting the British on the frontier; forcing the British again to spread their troops over a larger area and further weakened the British war effort. v The war effort expands east into the Atlantic where privateers harass British trade routes. This would lead to British merchants asking Parliament to end the war.

WOMEN OF THE American Revolution I desire you would remember the ladies” -March 31, 1776, Abigail Adams to her husband, John Adams Some women burned crops to prevent British redcoats from being able to eat the food Some women stole guns from redcoats and in some cases shot the soldiers Some women rode the countryside to warn colonists of British troop movements Some women listened in on redcoat conversations and passes information on to the Patriots Some women enlisted in the Continental Army disguised as men to fight Some women followed the Continental Army to act as nurses and cook food Some women took up arms and shot cannon if their husbands got hurt The impact that ladies had on the revolutionary effort did not take center stage and has been underrated. The involvement of some of these women has not been as recognizable as others, but they all had one thing in common, patriotic passion. These women were steadfast, dependable and assisted in every way imaginable, many even risking their own lives and fearing for their personal safety.
